This study evaluates a potential method for determining localized risk from extreme heat events (EHEs) in urban environments by integrating socio-demographic risk factors with estimates of land surface temperature. Methods that provide more spatially specific information may better inform planning and intervention in areas where increased prevalence of heat-related illness and EHEs are likely to occur.

This report, from Trust for America's Health (TFAH), examines the human health effects of climate change and the role public health authorities must play in preventing and preparing for further climate-related damage. It also explores the needs of state and local health departments as they set out to conduct climate change needs assessments and provides a framework to develop strategic plans to prevent and prepare for climate change. TFAH makes policy recommendations pertaining to increased action from federal, state, and local governments.

This report reviews the costs of adapting to climate change in a range of sectors. It aims to demonstrate the uncertainties of current cost estimates for climate change adaptation. The review examines these costs at the sector level, including several sectors which had previously not been fully considered in cost estimates - and advocates for further refinement of these estimates.

The Florida Oceans and Coastal Council prepared this report in 2009 to provide a foundation for future discussions of the effects of global climate change on Florida's ocean and coastal resources, and to inform Floridians about the current state of scientific knowledge regarding climate change. The report provides a high-level overview of the impacts to infrastructure, human health and the economy, as well as key drivers such as increasing air temperatures, warming ocean temperatures, and sea level rise.

This report discusses the increasing effects of climate change on freshwater resources and ecosystem services. It focuses on types of socioeconomic and biotic adaptations, and provides an overview of direct and cumulative impacts. Perspectives on adaptive responses are offered, and the results of five case studies are included which demonstrate regional adaptation measures. The series of case studies - from Massachusetts, New York, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and California - are used to illustrate ecosystem services that are able to adapt to to extreme variations in precipitation.
