Puerto Rico State of the Climate 2010-2013: Assessing Puerto Rico’s Social-Ecological Vulnerabilities in a Changing Climate

2013

Puerto Rico’s State of the Climate report is a comprehensive climate change vulnerability assessment for Puerto Rico as of 2013. It is comprised of three individual assessment reports focused on climate change impacts to Geophysical and Chemical Science, Ecology and Biodiversity, and the Economy and Society of the island territory. The overall assessment concludes that the coastal communities of Puerto Rico, critical infrastructure, economic development, tourism, natural resources and biodiversity, and cultural and historic resources are all vulnerable to climate change.

West Wide Wildfire Risk Assessment

2013

The Council of Western State Foresters and the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) developed a wildfire risk assessment of all lands for the 17 western states and select Pacific Islands - known as the West Wide Wildfire Risk Assessment, or WWA.  Three sets of summary statistics were developed using the results of the WWA, including Regional Summary Statistics, State Summary Statistics, and County Risk Reports, as well as maps of wildfire risk demonstrating fire threat and that to key assets - downscaled to the county level.

U.S. Department of Defense Arctic Strategy

November 22, 2013

The Department of Defense (DoD/Department) Arctic Strategy outlines the American military's role in carrying out the National Strategy for the Arctic Region, including maintaining peace and security in a region severely impacted by climate change. The Strategy explains how the DoD will promote security, stewardship, and international cooperation in the Arctic, where the intended “end-state” for this strategy is: “a secure and stable region where U. S. national interests are safeguarded, the U.

2013

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hosts a searchable website for climate change impacts and adaptation information and resources. From the home page, impacts and adaptation information is organized by region or by sector, as well as additional adaptation resources are provided - categorized as adaptation overview, federal and EPA programs, and tools for public officials.

Climate Change and the Pacific Islands: Indicators and Impacts

December 2012

The Pacific Islands Regional Climate Assessment (PIRCA) produced this report on climate change impacts, indicators, and adaptive capacity of Hawai‘i and the U.S.-affiliated Pacific Islands, with the support of nearly 100 scientific experts and practitioners.  The report was a regional contribution integrated into the Third National Climate Assessment.

Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Land Use in Hawaii: A Policy Tool Kit for State and Local Governments

December 2011

This Policy Tool Kit was developed by the Center for Island Climate Adaptation and Policy (“ICAP”) and the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program. The Tool Kit surveys state adaptation plans, federal efforts, and other key sources to identify and discuss important land use policy tools for Hawai‘i, and suggests how these policies can be used by state and local governments to avoid or lessen the impacts of sea-level rise and related coastal hazards.

Guam Coastal Management Program - Section 309 Assessments and Strategy 2011 - 2015

September 2010

The Guam Coastal Management Program (GCMP) completed assessment and strategy documents in 1991, 1997, 2001, and 2006. This 2010 update provides an opportunity to review the program's accomplishments as well as its strategy for handling new challenges and changing scenarios facing Guam. This update also reflects changes that are based on the single biggest event to happen on Guam since World War II: a massive Department of Defense buildup.

Climate Adaptation Priorities for the Western States: Scoping Report

June 2010

The Western Governors Association's Climate Adaptation Work Group's first task was to develop this scoping report in an effort to identify state and regional priorities for planning and adapting to a changing climate. Three specific goals were identified for further discussion: 1) foster coordination on adaptation activities, particularly between state and federal efforts; 2) identify key science needs for Western states; and 3) begin to share smart practices among states. This report focuses on priority actions that could help states adequately plan for and improve resiliency to a changing climate.

Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future: 2010 Progress Report

June 2010

This report from the Western Governor's Association, along with the 2006 report, "Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future," and the 2008 report, "Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future: Next Steps" includes consensus recommendations to promote the cooperation between western states and federal, local, and private sector partners in addressing the challenges of over-appropriated watersheds, population growth, land use changes, water needs for in-stream uses, and water supply and water management strategies.

Implementing the National Water Program Strategy: Response to Climate Change

February 2010

This report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) summarizes the efforts made by each of the Regions in response to climate change in the years 2007 through 2009.
