U. S. Department of Interior resilience projects developed in response to Hurricane Sandy were examined for their performance as related to goals and actual outcomes. DOI has in turn developed metrics to measure changes in ecological resilience resulting from the DOI-sponsored projects, and determined that a separate analysis was needed for the development of socio-economic metrics. This report summarizes the DOI investment portfolio; the process to develop socio-economic metrics for the habitat and activities of existing and future coastal resilience efforts; and reviews the application of the socioeconomic and ecological metrics from project, region, and programmatic scales.

Colorado’s State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) summarizes the most crucial aspects of biodiversity conservation in Colorado over the next 10 years. The plan aims to address the impacts to, and develop near and long-term strategies for, the state’s Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) - which are the species of highest conservation priority in Colorado. This SWAP was coordinated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) - who have chosen 55 of the SGCN to focus their efforts on, considering these species as “Tier 1” or as being in the most critical condition in terms of severity of threats and population decline.

This report examines the role of gender in indigenous communities and discusses how gender influences climate change vulnerability and resilience of Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities. The intersection of gender with other forms of oppression in the face of climate change can result in unique vulnerabilities, requiring nuanced adaptation strategies for indigenous communities. This report provides a resource for native americans as well as nonindigenous collaborators to inform the development of climate adaptation strategies, that also help alleviate intersectional oppression and promote gender justice.

The Bipartisan Policy Center created this model legislation to help states pass public-private partnership (P3) enabling laws to encourage private-sector investment in infrastructure (wastewater, transportation, stormwater, and green infrastructure). P3s could be an important tool for helping state and local governments finance the investments they need to make to adapt infrastructure systems. P3s allow the government to contract with a private sector partner to fulfill one or more traditional government functions, including financing, delivery, operations, and maintenance of public infrastructure.

The City of San Diego, California Climate Action Plan is a strategy to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets, and to achieve resiliency to climate change impacts. The CAP provides strategies for the City to collaborate with communities in assessing vulnerability to future climate change, developing overarching adaptation strategies and implementing measures to enhance resilience. A chapter dedicated to climate change adaptation identifies climate impacts for San Diego, illustrates current climate adaptation efforts throughout the state, and provides a guide to adaptation and resiliency strategy development.

The Seattle, Washington Extreme Heat Scenario-Based Pilot-Project was commissioned by the City of Seattle Office of Sustainability and Environment, funded in part by the Urban Sustainability Directors Network, and conducted by Equity Matters. It was commissioned as a pilot program to understand how municipal agencies, including Public Health - Seattle and King County, and the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, can better support low-income communities and communities of color during extreme heat events.

The Trust for Public Land researched the current state of decision support tools being used for climate change planning, along with the needs of potential users within municipal governments and partner organizations for these types of tools. The report summarizes findings on tool availability and function, the readiness of cities for tool use, their capacity and capabilities, the availability of data for planning, and some cases of translating results to action. Appendix B provides a comprehensive list of 50 web-based publicly available decision support tools that could be useful for climate adaptation planning and development.
