Sea Level Rise Strategy for Charleston, South Carolina

The City of Charleston, South Carolina released a Sea Level Rise Strategy in 2015 with recommendations on actions the city can take to improve its long-term resilience to sea level rise (SLR) and recurrent flooding. The purpose of this document is to inform and provide an overall strategy and guiding framework to protect lives and property, maintain a thriving economy, and improve quality of life by making the City more resilient to sea level rise and recurrent flooding. The strategy includes current and proposed initiatives developed by a sea level rise task force.

Rhode Island 2015 Climate Change and Health Resiliency Report

2015

The Rhode Island Department of Health’s Climate Change and Health Resiliency Report identifies the climate change impacts on public health in Rhode Island, and offers strategies that can strengthen the effectiveness of public health management for climate impacts in the state. The report describes the threats that climate change poses to the state and its vulnerable populations, and details ongoing and planned best practices to counter these threats and protect vulnerable groups. The Department of Health Climate Change Program (HEALTH) has implemented climate adaptation projects that are highlighted throughout the report, along with Rhode Island case studies, and examples of best practices from across the country.

Planning for Climate and Energy Equity in Maryland

December 2015

Funded by the Town Creek Foundation of Maryland, Skeo Solutions evaluated Maryland’s 2013 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act Plan - to determine the effects of the plan on state programs and disadvantaged communities. Aimed at enhancing social equity outcomes in Maryland’s climate planning, the programs were analyzed as to whether they benefit or reduce impacts on vulnerable communities - in order to identify programatic improvements, and the need for new initiatives. In addition, a number of long-term recommendations are offered to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance climate adaptation planning.

Ready to Respond: Strategies for Multifamily Building Resilience is a compilation of strategies for retrofitting affordable housing buildings in order to make these properties more resilient against climate hazards and extreme weather events. Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. (Enterprise) developed the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funded resilience manual to provide guidance to affordable multifamily building owners on retrofit strategies that will help protect and adapt their properties to a variety of climate hazards typical to the Northeastern United States.

The Business Case for Responsible Corporate Adaptation: Strengthening Private Sector and Community Resilience

This report details both the benefits of and barriers to responsible corporate adaptation. The report includes 17 case studies that provide examples of innovative solutions used by companies to overcome the most pressing challenges to responsible corporate adaptation such as information gaps, uncertain risk, planning challenges, and policy, regulatory and socio-cultural barriers (see an overview of the case studies on pages 25 – 27). The report includes recommendations for businesses and policymakers to enhance “responsible corporate adaptation, strengthen collaboration and incentivize the development of adaptation solutions.

King County Strategic Climate Action Plan - 2015 Update

November 2015

In November 2015 King County, Washington adopted an update to their Strategic Climate Action Plan, which includes the county's plans for both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for climate change impacts.  Section 2 describes the county's adaptation plans for 12 focus areas: built environment (wastewater, roads and bridges, airport, county buildings and facilities) and planning and regional services (regional planning, public health, stormwater, floodplains, salmon recovery and rural programs, public transportation, environmental science and monitoring, and emergency management).

National Park Service Coastal Adaptation Strategies: Case Studies

This National Park Service report reviews the successful implementation of coastal climate adaptation strategies through 24 case studies of coastal adaptation projects in National Parks. The adaptation efforts described include historic structure preservation, archeological surveys, baseline data collection and documentation, habitat restoration, engineering solutions, redesign and relocation of infrastructure, and development of broad management plans that consider climate change.
