Climate Change Adaptation in the Metropolitan Washington Region: Draft Transportation Sector Vulnerabilities

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) Transportation Vulnerability Assessment was developed as part of a broader climate change adaptation initiative.  This preliminary vulnerability assessment for the transportation sector identifies the possible climate impacts to the transportation sector, including roads and bridges, rail, facilities and buildings, bicycle and pedestrian buildings, and airports.

Sea Grant Community Climate Adaptation Initiative 2011

July 7, 2011

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Sea Grant Program promoted a national competition to fund technical assistance projects as part of an overall plan to enhance climate adaptation in coastal communities. NOAA Sea Grant made $1,000,000 available to fund coastal climate adaptation efforts for FY 2012-2013.

Past and Projected Trends in Climate and Sea Level for South Florida

This technical report summarizes trends in sea level rise, coastal climate variability and climate change impacts in south Florida. The report is one deliverable from a South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) project to coordinate issues related to climate change and sea level rise in the region. SFWMD is a state agency that is responsible for managing water resources in a 16-county region that extends from Orlando to Key West, Florida.

Assessment of Sea Level Rise in Coastal Mississippi

The report also contains a number of sea level rise resiliency strategies categorized into three primary response pathways of armoring, retreating, and adapting.

The National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) Resilient Regions report describes how regional planning and development organizations are helping local governments to re-build resiliently after natural disasters.  The report offers detailed case studies from Florida, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Wisconsin. Sea-Level Rise: A Transportation Vulnerability Assessment of the Wilmington, Delaware Region

This assessment was prepared by the staff of the Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO), the Metropolitan Planning Organization for New Castle County, Delaware and Cecil County, Maryland, to identify the vulnerabilities of the area’s transportation infrastructure to climate change. The body of the report is broken into five chapters:  background, methodology, regional impacts, cluster (neighborhood level) profiles, and policy recommendations.

Gulf of Mexico Climate Change Adaptation Inventory

The Climate Change Adaptation Inventory is a compilation of climate adaptation activities and research initiatives taking place at the federal, state, and local levels in communities adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. The inventory focuses specifically on those projects and efforts that address climate change or sea level rise. Research activities captured by the inventory are limited to those projects that have applications to coastal communities, particularly planning and development, land management, and socioeconomic initiatives.
