California Department of Water Resources
The mission of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) is to manage the water resources of California in cooperation with other agencies, to benefit the State's people, and to protect, restore, and enhance the natural and human environments. DWR's responsibilities and duties include preventing and responding to floods, droughts, and catastrophic events; informing and educating the public on water issues; and planning for future water needs, climate change impacts, and flood protection - among other climate change related concerns. DWR's sustainability policy promotes a departmental change in the way DWR operates relative to climate change impacts on water.
To mitigate the impacts of drought in California, DWR collects and analyzes specialized climate and hydrology data, is improving hydrologic forecasting capabilities, and provides technical assistance to small water systems.
