Climate Change: A Serious Threat to Public Health

This brief fact sheet presents the key findings and analysis from a survey of 57 state and territorial governments regarding current activities and programs designed to address the public health consequences of climate change. The survey focused on the current climate change practices, perceptions, and resource needs of state and territorial health agencies. The responses presented in this fact sheet indicate a belief among most respondents that climate change will pose serious health problems to their state or territory.

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held its First National Expert and Stakeholder Workshop on Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Adaptation to Climate Change on January 6-7, 2009, in Arlington, Virginia. Sponsored by the EPA Office of Water and Office of Research and Development, the workshop was attended by more than 130 invited experts and stakeholders from the federal, research, utility, engineering, academic, and NGO sectors. The workshop included several plenary sessions and focused on two major topics: 1) Climate Change Impacts on Hydrology and Water Resource Management, and 2) Adaptive Management and Engineering: Information and Tools.

RichmondBUILD Academy - City of Richmond, California
2007
RichmondBUILD is a public-private partnership initiative launched by the City of Richmond, California to train individuals on developing the necessary talent and skill to join careers in the renewable energy or construction industries. RichmondBUILD has focused its efforts on recruiting participants from low-income households throughout the community. Since its launch in 2007, a majority of graduates of the workforce training program have been minorities (90%), and it includes a large percentage of individuals who have a history with the justice system (30%).

This guide, published by the NOAA Coastal Services Center (CSC), introduces coastal managers to concepts of stakeholder analysis and engagement. The document explains how different stakeholder groups and their interests should be identified during the coastal planning process. Additionally, NOAA CSC provides the reader with guidance for when and how during the coastal planning process stakeholders should be engaged. Additionally, the document provides guidance on identifying coastal management stakeholders, describes some of the most commonly used techniques for stakeholder participation, and discusses evaluation of stakeholder participation.

Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN) and Portal
The Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN) launched in November 2010 as a new National Science Digital Library (NSDL) Pathways project. It builds on the efforts of the Climate Literacy Network and the establishment of the Climate Literacy: Essential Principles of Climate Science, to steward a broad collection of educational resources that facilitate students, teachers, and citizens in becoming climate literate.
