A Greater LA: Climate Action Framework - Transportation and Land Use

The Transportation and Land Use section of Los Angeles County, California's Climate Action Framework (A Greater LA) identifies regional-scale priorities for the County region to reduce emissions and improve public health, air quality, and climate resilience through transportation and land use decisions. The Framework, which also contains sections for four other sectors, was developed by the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC) to support more coordinated and collaborative regional policies relating to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Wisconsin's Strategy for Reducing Global Warming
July 2008
Wisconsin's Global Warming Task Force was created by Governor Jim Doyle, pursuant to Executive Order 191, on April 5, 2007. The Task Force was assigned to develop this strategy to assess and inventory Wisconsin's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and set emission reduction goals. The Report proposes over 50 actionable policy recommendations in the utility, transportation, agriculture and forestry, and industry sectors, including a proposed federal or regional GHG Cap and Trade Program, to achieve these goals.

Portland, Oregon Tree Code
2011
In 2011, the City of Portland, Oregon developed a new tree code in order to preserve the urban forest and to actualize goals in the city's 2007 Urban Forest Action Plan. Prior to the new tree code, tree-related regulations were inconsistent with city policies and processes relating to planting and removal of city, street, and private trees. Recognizing that trees provide environmental, social and economic benefits to the city, the City of Portland established a legal framework and clear permitting processes to regulate trees in both development and non-development situations.

Virginia's Climate Modeling and Species Vulnerability Assessment: How Climate Data Can Inform Management and Conservation
2013
This project developed models of select fish, wildlife and tree species distributions in Virginia under multiple climate change scenarios, and produced a species vulnerability assessment for the state. The assessment is intended to help decision makers better understand how climate change will likely affect sensitive species and habitats in Virginia. The project was funded by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) through a State Wildlife Grant, and by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and was supported by research from the Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech.

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) “How We Respond” Project
September 2019
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) launched the “How We Respond” Project in order to showcase examples of how communities across the country are using science to effectively respond to climate change. The project includes a report and accompanying multimedia community profiles aimed at demonstrating a variety of approaches and solutions that other communities can model as they seek local solutions to climate change. Case study topics include building regional climate alliances in California and New Jersey, to relocating buildings to escape shoreline erosion in Alaska, to restoring wetlands for flood protection in Iowa and Massachusetts and more.

California State Adaptation Clearinghouse - ResilientCA.org
2018
California’s Adaptation Clearinghouse has been developed by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) in response to CA’s 2015 Senate Bill 246 - which directed OPR to form the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program. One main component of the Program is the State Adaptation Clearinghouse, which serves as a “centralized source of information and resources to assist decision makers at the state, tribal, regional, and local levels when planning for and implementing climate adaptation projects to promote resiliency across California.

The guide is focused on how to pursue a project that addresses CSOs while simultaneously attending to other top city priorities, such as public housing or health, all with the goal of “creating win-wins and opening up nontraditional funding/financing options.
