In October 2009, President Obama signed Executive Order 13514, Federal Leadership in Environmental and Energy Performance, which sets sustainability goals for Federal agencies and focuses on making improvements in agency environmental, energy, and economic performance. The Executive Order charged the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force with providing recommendations on how Federal policies, programs, and planning efforts can better prepare the United States for climate change. In October 2010, the Task Force recommended a set of policy goals and actions in its Progress Report to the President.

On September 27, 2011, Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Richard K. Sullivan Jr. filed the Massachusetts Climate Change Adaptation Report with the state's Legislature. The report provides a comprehensive overview of observed and predicted changes to Massachusetts’ climate and the anticipated impacts of and potential adaptation strategies to prepare for climate change.

From the US Forest Service (USFS) Pacific Northwest Research Station, this technical report details a case study determining how to adapt federal land management practices to climate change on the Olympic Peninsula. In collaboration with the Olympic National Park, the Olympic Climate Change Case Study was conducted at Olympic National Forest and involved sensitivity assessments, reviews of management activities and constraints, and focus-area adaptation workshops.

From the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program, the goals of this project were to first compile a priority list of species occurring in Pennsylvania that are likely vulnerable to climate change, and to then examine the climate change vulnerability of species included in the priority list. The overall objective was to not only identify climate change vulnerable species but to also examine the abiotic factors and life history characteristics that contribute to their increased vulnerability.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation developed this report in response to the SECURE Water Act of 2009 - outlining climate change impacts on water basins in the Southwestern U.S. The report provides comprehensive assessments of risk across each of Reclamation's major eight basins and summarizes hydrologic changes that would take place in response to projected climate change.

Roughly 1. 2 million U. S. tribal members living on or near reservations are experiencing constraints on their lifestyles and economic activity due to the impacts of climate change. Forest resources are deteriorating due to invasive species, while salmon are threatened by warmer water temperatures. In the United States, the federal government has an obligation to exercise legal authorities to protect tribal lands, resources and rights. Because ecosystems and ecosystem impacts permeate jurisdictions and borders, tribal dependence on the land extends beyond on-reservation resources.

The NatureServe Climate Change Vulnerability Index (CCVI) can help identify plant and animal species that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Using the Index, information is readily available about a species' natural history, distribution and landscape circumstances to predict whether it will likely suffer habitat loss, population reductions, or both during the coming years. CCVI can be used as part of a variety of analyses, including assessing the relative risk of species listed in State Wildlife Action Plans or part of any assessment of the vulnerability of species to climate change.

This compilation of nine white papers includes an introduction to the climate science and impacts relevant to Vermont and eight sector-specific reports in the areas of Agriculture, Water Resources, Recreation, Forestry, Public Health, Public Safety, Fish and Wildlife, and Transportation. It builds upon the 2010 report “Weathering Climate Change: Framing Strategies to Minimize the Impacts on Pennsylvania Ecosystems and Wildlife."
