AB 1482 requires the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), in coordination with the Strategic Growth Council, to oversee and coordinate state agency actions to adapt to climate change. The bill requires CNRA to update the state’s climate adaptation strategy (Safeguarding California), by July 1, 2017, and every three years thereafter. As part of the update, the CNRA will coordinate with other state agencies to identify the agency or agencies to lead adaptation efforts in each sector. The updates to the plan are to include climate change vulnerabilities by sector and the priority actions needed to reduce risks, for at least the following sectors:
Water
Energy
Transportation
Public health
Agriculture
Emergency services
Forestry
Biodiversity and habitat
Ocean and coastal resources
To address the vulnerabilities as identified in the updated plan, state agencies are directed to fulfill the objectives of:
Educating the public about the consequences of climate change, such as sea-level rise, extreme weather events, the urban heat island effect, habitat loss, wildfire, drought, threats to infrastructure and agriculture, worsening air and water quality, and public health impacts.

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has developed an online interactive map of ocean acidification implications on coastal communities. The mapping approach determines where the ocean chemistry is changing most rapidly, where vulnerable species are located, and where people who most depend on these species reside. The intersection of these factors reveals an elevated risk from ocean acidification.

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service Strategy is designed to help regional fishery managers respond to climate change's effect on marine resources. The report identifies key objectives to increase production, delivery, and use of climate-related information to support the management of fish stocks, fisheries, and protected species. The Strategy outlines a clear path for NOAA Fisheries and partners to deliver the science enterprise, information and tools needed for climate-ready decision-making.

The "State of the Climate" is the authoritative annual summary of the global climate published as a supplement to the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. An international, peer-reviewed publication released each summer, it provides a detailed update on global climate indicators, notable weather events, and other data collected by environmental monitoring stations and instruments located on land, water, ice, and in space. The State of the Climate report is compiled by NOAA’s Center for Weather and Climate at the National Centers for Environmental Information and is based on contributions from 413 scientists from 58 countries around the world.

The Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal is an online toolkit and resource center developed by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean (MARCO). NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch (CRW) is a decision support system providing resource managers, researchers, and other stakeholders with information on coral reef threats, primarily from climate change, to inform preparedness and response decisions. CRW uses remote sensing, modeled, and in situ biogeophysical data to offer near real-time and long-term monitoring, modeling, and reporting of conditions affecting coral reef ecosystems, especially related to coral bleaching. The information provided by the Coral Reef Watch program serves as an early warning system for coral reef changes as well as projected outlooks of coral bleaching heat stress.
