The National Map: 3D Elevation Program (3DEP)

July 18, 2014

The Department of the Interior's U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and other Federal agencies have launched a 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) partnership to develop advanced 3-dimensional mapping data of the United States. These data and related tools will be used in the areas of flood risk management, water resource planning, mitigation of coastal erosion and storm surge impacts, and identification of landslide hazards - as "an essential component of supporting action on climate resilience."

Marshes on the Move: A Manager’s Guide to Understanding and Using Model Results Depicting Potential Impacts of Sea Level Rise on Coastal Wetlands

Retrospective and Prospective Model Simulations of Sea Level Rise Impacts on Gulf of Mexico Coastal Marshes and Forests in Waccasassa Bay, Florida

May 10, 2011

The State of Florida is especially threatened by sea level rise due to extensive low elevation coastal habitats (approximately 8,000 km2 < 1 m above sea level) where the majority of the human population resides. This paper used the Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model (SLAMM) simulation to improve understanding of the magnitude and location of these changes for 58,000 ha of the Waccasassa Bay region of Florida’s central Gulf of Mexico coast. To assess how well SLAMM portrays changes in coastal wetland systems resulting from sea level rise, the study conducted a hindcast in which they compared model results to 30 years of field plot data.

Past and Projected Trends in Climate and Sea Level for South Florida

July 5, 2011

This technical report summarizes trends in sea level rise, coastal climate variability and climate change impacts in south Florida. The report is one deliverable from a South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) project to coordinate issues related to climate change and sea level rise in the region. SFWMD is a state agency that is responsible for managing water resources in a 16-county region that extends from Orlando to Key West, Florida.

Ramifications of Climate Change for Chesapeake Bay Hypoxia

December 2007

This paper examines how both climate variability and potential climate change can affect hypoxia in the Chesapeake Bay and can present additional challenges to ongoing ecosystem restoration. It is one of four case studies in a report entitled, "Regional Impacts of Climate Change: Four Case Studies in the United States," that examines impacts of particular interest to different regions of the U. S. Past observations are used to elucidate the multiple influences of climate on hypoxia and its consequences to the Bay ecosystems.

The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) GeoPlatform website provides access to federally-maintained data and resources related to coastal flooding, sea level rise, and their impacts. Delaware 2017 Coastal Inundation Maps

2017

Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the scientists from Delaware Coastal Programs have developed Sea Level Rise (SLR) inundation maps for the state as an online interactive tool. The maps show the possible impacts of inundation based on various SLR scenarios for Delaware’s waterways and watersheds.  The maps are a representation of inundation based on local Mean Higher High Water (MHHW), which is the long-term average of the higher of the daily high tides.
