Synthesis and Assessment Product (SAP) 4.5: Effects of Climate Change on Energy Production and Use in the United States

February 2008

This report is one in a series of 21 Synthesis and Assessment Products (SAPs) produced between 2004 and 2009 by the U.S. Climate Change Science Program, aimed at providing current assessments of climate change science in the U.S. to inform public debate, policy, and operational decisions. This SAP summarizes currently knowledge about direct and indirect effects of climate change on energy consumption, production, and supply in the U.S.

Aquarius: A Modeling System for River Basin Water Allocation

Aquarius is a software application developed by the Rocky Mountain Research Station of the U. S Forest Service and Colorado State University. The modeling system depicts the temporal and spatial allocation of water flows among competing traditional and nontraditional water uses in a river basin. The program can be used to determine economically efficient water destination strategies by systematically examining, using a nonlinear optimization technique, the feasibility of reallocating unused or marginally valuable water storage and releases in favor of alternative uses.

California State Adaptation Clearinghouse - ResilientCA.org

2018

California’s Adaptation Clearinghouse has been developed by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) in response to CA’s 2015 Senate Bill 246 - which directed OPR to form the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program. One main component of the Program is the State Adaptation Clearinghouse, which serves as a “centralized source of information and resources to assist decision makers at the state, tribal, regional, and local levels when planning for and implementing climate adaptation projects to promote resiliency across California.

National Climate Assessment

May 6, 2014

The U. S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) has a legal mandate to conduct a National Climate Assessment (NCA) every four years, the third and most recent of which was released in May 2014. Summarizing current and future climate change impacts across the nation, the NCA is the most comprehensive assessment of climate change impacts ever conducted in the U. S.   The new report is presented on a highly interactive website, with a stunning visual presentation, intended to fully engage the general public along with decision-makers.

A Geospatial Dataset for U.S. Hurricane Storm Surge and Sea-level Rise Vulnerability: Development and Case Study Applications

April 2014

Published in the ‘Climate Risk Management’ journal, this study presents the results of an effort to develop storm surge inundation layers for the eastern U.S. - a first pass assessment of exposure to hurricane storm surge and sea-level rise for the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coasts. The results include multiple inundation mapping overlays reflecting both hurricanes of different intensities as well as various scenarios of sea-level rise.

Trends in Extreme Precipitation Events for the Northeastern United States 1948-2007

March 2010

Based on the number and frequency of extreme precipitation events since the release of their 2005 report, entitled "Indicators of Climate Change in the Northeast," the authors sought to update information for this particular indicator in the Northeast, and apply more rigorous analysis to better enable local communities to take appropriate actions.

Evaluation of Energy Conservation Measures for Wastewater Treatment Facilities

September 2010

This report, published by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aims to encourage the implementation of energy conservation measures (ECMs) at publicly owned wastewater treatment works (POTWs) by providing accurate performance and cost/benefit information. The report’s focus is mainly on energy efficient equipment replacement, operational modifications, and process control enhancements that lead to improved energy efficiency and cost savings with reasonable payback periods (10 years or less).

Climate Change in Colorado: A Synthesis to Support Water Resources Management and Adaptation (2008)

2008

This report is a synthesis of climate change science that is important for evaluating impacts on Colorado's water resources. This document provides scientific analyses to support state and regional efforts to develop a water adaptation plan, while presenting scientific analyses on observed trends, modeling, and projections of hydro-climatic variables - including temperature, precipitation, snowmelt, and runoff. This analysis includes a record of Colorado climate that covers trends in temperature, precipitation, snow and stream flow; a section describing climate models, emissions scenarios, and downscaling; followed by climate attributions, projections, and implications for the state.
