EPA Green Infrastructure Strategic Agenda 2013

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Strategic Agenda for green infrastructure outlines the EPA’s key objectives in supporting community level efforts to develop and incorporate green infrastructure.   The strategy is designed to address climate change impacts.   According to the EPA, “creating more resilient systems will become increasingly important in the face of climate change. As more intense weather events or dwindling water supplies stress the performance of the nation’s water infrastructure, green infrastructure offers an approach to increase resiliency and adaptability.

King County, Washington 2012 Strategic Climate Action Plan

December 3, 2012

King County’s 2012 Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) summarizes the County’s efforts in addressing climate change, outlining the county’s most critical goals and priority actions for preparing for climate impacts and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The plan is designed to inform policy and budget decisions, and to serve as the framework for annual reporting along with the County’s energy, green building and environmental purchasing programs. The plan responds to King County Council Ordinance 17270, which required the county executive to develop a strategic climate action plan by 2012, and update the plan in 2015.

Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts Action Plan: Planning for a Shifting Shoreline and Coastal Storms

The Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program updated their 1991 Buzzards Bay Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) to implement strategies to reduce the severity of impacts of future storms and sea level rise on the coast and on existing and future coastal development. The Plan includes new or updated goals, objectives, and management solutions to meet the environmental needs for Buzzards Bay and its surrounding watershed throughout the next decade.

Southeast Florida Regional Climate Action Plan

October 2012

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact was executed by Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Monroe Counties in January 2010 to coordinate mitigation and adaptation activities across county lines in the region. The Compact is a focused collaborative, providing the vision and framework for regional resilience. The Compact calls for the Counties to work cooperatively in order to develop a coordinated response to proposed state climate legislation and policies; to create a Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Action Plan to include mitigation and adaptation strategies; and to meet annually in Regional Climate Summits to mark progress and identify emerging issues.

South Florida Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy 2012-2107

September 2012

The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for South Florida is a plan to support the regional economy of Broward, Miami. Dade, and Monroe Counties. The CEDS will guide federal and state investment priorities and funding sources, and delineates lead organizations responsibilities for execution of the CEDS. The strategy takes into account the region’s vulnerability to climate impacts, and discusses advance preparation and adaptation, as well as the necessity for South Florida to become disaster resilient to remain economically strong.

Oregon Integrated Water Resources Strategy 2012

August 2, 2012

The Oregon Water Resources Commission adopted the state's first Integrated Water Resources Strategy in 2012 with recommended actions designed to improve access to, and sustainability of, water resources. The report addresses the relationship between water and ecosystem health in sections related to in-stream needs, climate change, land use planning, healthy ecosystems, and public health - and presents short and long-term strategic recommendations.

Climate Ready North Carolina: Building a Resilient Future

August 2012

The North Carolina Interagency Leadership Team (ILT) - a group of 11 state and federal agencies - developed this coordinated climate adaptation strategy providing a framework for planning an integrated climate adaptation response for North Carolina. The report discusses how the state can proactively prepare for projected impacts of climate variability and weather extremes, with the emphasis on practical, economically feasible options that can be undertaken by state agencies, working with willing partners at local, regional, and federal levels.
