The Twin Cities Metropolitan Council Climate Vulnerability Assessment (CVA) tool can assist the Metropolitan Council and community planning efforts in preparing for and adapting to climate change in the Twin Cities, Minnesota region. The assessment focuses primarily on the impacts of extreme heat and flooding events. The CVA and tools include the assessment report, data sets, interactive mapping tools, and story maps. The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization for the seven-county Twin Cities, Minnesota region - and the CVA supports the Council in maintaining infrastructure and prioritizing future climate adaptive improvements.

In 2018, Massachusetts launched resilent MA, an online clearinghouse for local governments and the public with comprehensive information about the state’s work on climate adaptation and mitigation. The clearinghouse contains science and data on expected climate changes, information on community resiliency, decision support tools, and links to grant programs and technical assistance that local government and communities can use to fund and support actions to adapt to climate change.

A program of the Waterfront Alliance, WEDG is a tool for use prior to and during the design process of waterfront projects. Created for professionals, communities, and landowners, the tool is a credit system and series of guidelines to develop and enhance coastal projects on a voluntary basis. The guidelines support decision making for development that is resilient to the coastal impacts of climate change, enhances ecological protections, and provides equitable public access.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) EDGe$ (Economic Decision Guide Software) Tool is a software application for community resilience planning. EDGe$ provides a methodology for evaluating investment decisions for adaptation, resilience and recovery from disruptive events or disasters. The tool is focused on supporting the planning process around the implementation of resilient, economically viable infrastructure in communities. by identifying the cost of investing in resilience, and the benefits of new community level capital investments.

New Hampshire’s Department of Environmental Services administers the Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) project which is intended to provide municipalities along the Great Bay with the resources they need to assess sea level rise and storm surge flooding. The Great Bay communities that have been assessed include: Rollinsford, Dover, Madbury, Durham, Newmarket, Newfields, Exeter, Stratham, Greenland, and Newington. This project is funded through the Coastal Zone Management Act by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The Cambridge FloodViewer is an interactive mapping tool developed by the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts to help the Cambridge community visualize flood scenarios, assess flood risk in a given area, and prepare for climate impacts associated with sea level rise and storm surge. The tool allows users to explore flooding impacts from the community level to the parcel level, and to what extent inundation is projected to occur.

Utilizing GIS tools to overlay flood risk maps with Annapolis’ many historical sites, the interactive web-based resource help users to understand the threat to their community through images and story mapping. Spurred by the state’s 2008 Climate Action Plan, which assessed what approach (protecting, retreating, or abandoning) was most appropriate for coastal communities threatened by sea level rise, this tool brings together experts in planning, architecture, engineering, and historic preservation.
