Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Climate Change Adaptation Framework

This report from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) addresses climate change impacts on four natural resource sectors including wildlife, fisheries, forestry, and water resources.  After detailing climate impacts on each sector, a strategic climate adaptation framework is proposed for continued climate change vulnerability assessment and action planning.

Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) Regulations

May 10, 2013

The Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) Regulations, 310 CMR 11.00 et seq., were last revised as of May 10, 2013, and now contain language that requires all state agencies to prepare for climate change impacts, in addition to limiting greenhouse gas emissions.

DOI Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science

May 8, 2013

The U. S. Department of Interior (DOI) announced in May 2013 the establishment of a federal advisory committee who will provide guidance about the Interior Department’s climate change adaptation science initiatives. The Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science will advise the Secretary of the Interior about the USGS National Climate Change and Wildlife Science Center and the Department of the Interior Climate Science Centers (CSCs), which are managed by the U. S. Geological Survey.

U.S. GAO report: Climate Change - Various Adaptation Efforts are Underway at Key Natural Resource Management Agencies

May 2013

The U. S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has reviewed what federal agencies are doing to incorporate climate change adaptation into their natural resource planning and management activities. In August 2007, the GAO reported that federal natural resource managers lacked specific guidance for incorporating climate change into their planning efforts and management actions. This report examines (1) steps key federal natural resource management agencies have taken since 2007 to address climate change adaptation and (2) how these agencies have collaborated with each other at the national level since 2007 to address climate change adaptation.

The guide combines practical advice and real-world case studies while outlining a six-step planning process for state governments, water managers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement climate preparedness plans.

National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan

As part of President Obama's National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes (or the National Ocean Policy), the National Ocean Council (NOC) released National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan in April 2013. The Plan describes specific actions Federal agencies will take to address key ocean challenges, give states and communities greater input in Federal decisions, streamline Federal operations, save taxpayer dollars, and promote economic growth.
