Organization
The USGS Rhode Island Water Science Center (RI WSC) provides current real time data on streamflow, ground water, water quality, precipitation, and lakes and reservoirs from sites throughout Rhode Island. The RI WSC conducts projects that involve the collection, monitoring, management and analysis of data on hydrologic and biologic resource conditions. These projects address a wide variety of water-resources issues, including water supply, groundwater contamination, nutrient loading in streams, ecological influences, effects of land use on water quality, and basic hydrologic and biologic data collection.

The USGS NH-VT Water Science Center provides current real-time data on streamflow, water quality, surface water, precipitation, and daily lake levels from sites throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. The center also has a number of reports covering ground water conditions, water levels in bedrock wells, estimated water withdrawals and return flows, flood studies, and other topics. With scientists, technicians, and support staff in the Pembroke, New Hampshire, and Montpelier, Vermont, offices, the Center works in cooperation with many Federal, State, and local agencies to evaluate the source, distribution, use, quantity, quality, and biology of water resources.

The USGS operates the most extensive satellite network of stream-gaging stations in the state, many of which form the backbone of flood-warning systems.
