The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) analyzes "high tide flooding" (also known as "nuisance flooding") in this report, and finds that it is becoming more commonplace due to sea level rise. High tide flooding impacts roads, beaches, parks, and private property, and is generally more disruptive than damaging. However, there are places such as Norfolk, Virginia; San Diego, California; and the U. S Marshall islands where it is currently a serious problem. Even more, with continued sea level rise, flooding is likely to increase.

The CalBRACE Adaptation Toolkit was developed by the California Department of Public Health Office of Health Equity as part of the California Building Resilience for Climate Effects (CalBRACE) project. This database is a collection of tools, reports, guides, and data to help local health departments assess, plan, and monitor in their efforts to reduce and prevent the health risks of climate change. This toolkit is designed for California, but can serve as a useful guide to health departments elsewhere.

This report is a synthesis of the current state of the science on sea-level rise and updated projections for California - produced by a Working Group of the California Ocean Protection Council (OPC) Science Advisory Team, supported and convened by the California Ocean Science Trust. The date in this report provides the scientific foundation for updating California’s statewide sea-level rise policy guidance - the State of California Sea-Level Rise Guidance Document. The Guidance documented was updated in 2018 to reflect the recent advances in science around ice loss science and sea-level rise found in this assessment.

Prepared for the California Air Resources Board and the California Environmental Protection Agency, this report describes the development of a “cool” pavement life-cycle assessment (pLCA) tool. The tool was created to help local officials in California cities to evaluate the environmental impacts of alternative pavement types - from extraction of materials through construction and use to removal and disposal or recycling of materials. This study aims to help California cities adopt pavement management strategies that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the urban heat island effect.

Developed by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment at the request of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), CalEnviroScreen is a science-based tool that identifies the California communities most burdened by pollution from multiple sources and most vulnerable to its effects. The tool uses existing environmental, health, demographic and socioeconomic data to create a screening score for communities across the state. Specifically, the tool uses data on 20 indicators covering pollution and population characteristics to create scores for each of the state’s 8,000 census tracts.

The Our Coast, Our Future (OCOF) project provides online maps and tools of local sea level rise and storm vulnerability within the San Francisco Bay Area, California. OCOF has modelled coastal impacts such as water levels, wave heights, flooding, and erosion; and mapping infrastructure and ecosystem vulnerabilities at scales relevant to planning and management.

Cal-Adapt is a climate change geospatial data tool for California, that is developed and maintained by the University of California, Berkeley Geospatial Innovation Facility with funding and oversight by the California Energy Commission. Cal-Adapt offers localized climate change projections for the state produced by California's scientific and research community. The updated version, Cal-Adapt 2. 0, has been released with new, high-resolution climate projections, enhanced visualizations, and improved access to data.

A Resilient Lands and Waters Initiative Final Report and companion website highlight the efforts of seven partnerships across the U. S. to build resilience of natural resources and to increase climate resilience at the landscape scale. These partnerships use existing collaborative, regional approaches to address climate change and to identify priority areas for conservation, restoration, and management actions. At each location, Federal agencies work closely with state, tribal, and local partners to prepare for and prevent climate impacts, and ensure that long-term conservation efforts take climate change into account.
