Climate Change/ Variability Science and Adaptative Strategies for State and Regional Transportation Decision Making

April 2010

The objective of this study was to generate a baseline understanding of current policy responses to climate change at the state and regional transportation planning and decision levels. The focus of the project was to determine if state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) in the U. S. are addressing the issue of climate change in general and, more specifically, considering adaptation measures for potential climate change impacts. The research approach included content analysis, an in-depth survey of stakeholders, and interviews with stakeholders.

An Action Plan for Public Health: Initial Recommendations for Involving Public Health in Climate Change Policy

Public Health Law and Policy, a non-profit organization focused on building healthy communities in the U. S. , gathered a diverse group of more than 150 participants for a multi-disciplinary exchange of ideas and strategies with the goal of better engaging public health networks and agencies in climate change work. This Action Plan presents a synthesis of those recommendations and priorities. Although developed for the state of California's public health system, the recommendations are largely applicable to any state.

Decadal and Regional Climate Prediction using Earth System Models (EaSM)

This joint research program is conducted by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and U. S. Department of Agriculture, and is designed to produce high-resolution models for predicting climate change and resulting impacts.   It allows the partner agencies to combine resources to identify and fund the most exemplary and highest-impact projects that support their respective missions, while eliminating duplication of effort and fostering collaboration between agencies and the investigators they support.

Weathering Climate Change: Framing Strategies to Minimize Impacts on Pennsylvania Ecosystems and Wildlife

As an initial effort to inform Pennsylvania’s climate adaptation planning process, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and The Nature Conservancy interviewed stakeholders from state and federal natural resource management agencies, research institutions, and environmental non-profit organizations. The findings from the interviews are presented in this report subtitled: “Perspectives from Conservation Leaders and Experts on Climate Change Adaptation.
