This report discusses the federal government’s importance in mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change on the U. S. economy and domestic natural resources. This report presents analysis and recommendations for creating a National Adaptation Program in the U. S. federal government, including a suggested organizational structure and key federal roles. The recommended program has three major components: an Adaptation Strategic Planning Initiative, a National Climate Service, and an Adaptation Research Program.

This white paper is a summary of the public health effects that can be expected due to climate change impacts in Thurston County, Washington. It is intended to build an understanding of, and capacity to plan for, the public health consequences of climate change within the county's health department. Findings are based on a review of literature, websites, and conversations with local researchers conducted in September, 2009, as one of the early steps in carrying out a grant award from the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO).

S, Department of the Interior (DOI) order, Secretarial Order No. 3289, establishes a department-wide approach for applying scientific tools to increase the understanding of climate change and to coordinate an effective response to its impacts on tribes and on the land, water, ocean, fish and wildlife, and cultural heritage resources that the Department manages. The U. S. Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART (Sustain and Manage America's Resources for Tomorrow) program is working to achieve a sustainable water strategy to meet the Nation's water needs. WaterSMART allows all bureaus of the Department to work with States, Tribes, local governments, and non-governmental organizations to pursue a sustainable water supply for the Nation by establishing a framework to provide federal leadership and assistance on the efficient use of water, integrating water and energy policies to support the sustainable use of all natural resources, and coordinating the water conservation activities of the various Interior offices.
