In 2007, thirteen scientists convened for a two-day meeting to exchange information and develop a consensus opinion on potential future coastal changes for the mid-Atlantic coast in response to sea-level rise. This 2007 report is the result of this workshop, providing an overview of how sea level rise could impact mid-Atlantic coast landforms, from New York to Virginia. Four different scenarios for sea level rise were considered and applied to specific areas of the Atlantic coast: a) the long-term sea-level rise rate observed over the 20th century would persist over the 21st century; b) the 20th century rate would increase by 2 mm/yr; c) the 20th century rate would increase by 7 mm/yr; and d) sea-level would rise by 2 m over the next few hundred years.

GNOHA members meet monthly to exchange information and data, discuss opportunities and problem solve, and work together to connect applicable organizations, stakeholders, and policymakers to better achieve the vision of growing the affordable housing stock available to New Orleanians.

Since 2007, New York City’s zoning code has required parking lots for community facilities to allow permeable pavements where appropriate. Parking lots with more than 18 spaces or more than 6,000 sq ft must capture stormwater through perimeter plantings and planting islands. The lot must be properly graded to drain runoff to those plantings. Both types of plantings must include trees of a certain diameter and spacing, and all vegetation must be from a list of pre-approved species. The objectives of these zoning requirements are to better manage stormwater on parking lots and reduce urban temperatures by providing shade.

This article offers a conceptual framework for managing forested ecosystems given the uncertainty of the impacts of climate change. The article addresses both mitigation and adaptation strategies. The adaptation strategies presented include resistance options (forestall impacts and protect highly valued resources), resilience options (improve the capacity of ecosystems to return to desired conditions after disturbance), and response options (facilitate transition of ecosystems from current to new conditions).

It provides technical and non-technical audiences alike with a visual mapping tool to access historical and projected changes in annual temperatures and precipitation levels from any geographic location worldwide. Using the custom mapping tool, users can choose a state or country and view data depicting the changing climate over time, including downloadable historic temperature and rainfall maps and projections of future changes in these data in a given area.
