Launched by the Romney Administration and the state legislature in 2006, the role of the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management's Coastal Hazards Commission (CHC) is to review existing coastal hazards practices and policies, identify data and information gaps, and make recommendations for administrative, regulatory, and statutory changes. The Commission released this report to summarize its findings after it reviewed coastal hazards associated with sea-level rise, hurricanes, northeasters and reduced sediment supply; moreover, it evaluated existing policies, potential knowledge gaps, and developed potential adaptation policies.

To continue adaptation efforts for Toronto and provide support to other Canadian cities and municipalities, the Clean Air Partnership made site visits to six municipalities that, at the time, were considered “early adopters” or “early responders” on adaptation and prepared this report on the lessons for other cities from their experiences. The study provides lessons from the experience of six cities that have developed adaptation plans including London, New York, Boston, Halifax, Vancouver, and Seattle.

The handbook introduces local officials and concerned citizens to No Adverse Impact (NAI) concepts, and suggests how a coastal community can use the NAI approach to minimize the risks and maximize the benefits of their coastal environments.

RichmondBUILD is a public-private partnership initiative launched by the City of Richmond, California to train individuals on developing the necessary talent and skill to join careers in the renewable energy or construction industries. RichmondBUILD has focused its efforts on recruiting participants from low-income households throughout the community. Since its launch in 2007, a majority of graduates of the workforce training program have been minorities (90%), and it includes a large percentage of individuals who have a history with the justice system (30%).

Signed in 2007 by Governor O'Malley, this Executive Order established a Climate Change Commission to advise the Governor on matters related to climate change, and tasked the Commission to develop a climate change "Plan of Action" to prepare for climate impacts on Maryland. This 2007 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report for Congress addresses three topics: climate change effects on wildlife, the ability for wildlife to adapt to climate change, and policy implications. This high-level report identifies potential legislative implications that could result from climate change. For example, wildlife laws and management plans developed with an understanding of the life history, distribution, and habitat needs of species may warrant assessments to see if they function as desired under projected climate conditions.
