The Google Crisis Response Team and the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) partnered to develop a real-time road closure map for Vermont in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. This tool provided information on the location and severity of damaged infrastructure so that state government agencies and the public could safely and efficiently navigate Vermont’s roads, and manage the damage in the aftermath of the storm.

Through the Long Island Sound Study, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability USA and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) partnered with Groton, Connecticut to conduct an analysis of how and if federal, state, and local stakeholders could collaborate to enhance resilience towards climate change at the local level. The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is a National Estuary Program and is eligible for EPA grants under the climate change initiative Climate Ready Estuaries.

The Coastal Conservancy’s Climate Ready program focuses on protecting important coastal resources and habitats from the current and future impacts of climate change, along the California coast and within the San Francisco Bay. The 'Guidance for Addressing Climate Change in California Coastal Conservancy Projects' provides grantees and Conservancy staff clarification, information and resources to assist in understanding and applying the Conservancy’s adopted Climate Change Policy and Project Selection Criteria.

Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) was directed by SB 964 in 2011 to develop and implement a general permit regulation that authorizes and encourages the use of living shorelines as the preferred alternative for stabilizing tidal shorelines. In 2015 and again in 2017 the VMRC established permitting regulations pursuant to SB 964. The Living Shoreline Group 1 (2015) and 2 (2017) General Permits for Certain Shoreline Treatments are regulations which streamline the permitting process incentivizing property owners to utilize a living shoreline approach to manage shoreline erosion, and promote tidal wetland vegetation to restore or enhance ecosystem services.

2008
StormSmart Coasts is a program for coastal management decision makers and communities, providing the latest and best information on coastal weather and climate hazards. The successful launch of the Massachusetts StormSmart Coasts initiative in 2008 led to the development of a national network in 2009. The network is a partnership of coastal decision makers supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center, Northeast Regional Ocean Council, Gulf of Mexico Alliance, and others which represent the StormSmart Coasts Network.

The Coastal Partnership Initiative (CPI) makes funding available to Florida's coastal counties and municipalities that are required to have a coastal management element in their comprehensive plan. Public colleges and universities, regional planning councils, national estuary programs and nonprofit groups may also apply for CPI funds if an eligible local government agrees to participate as a partner. The Initiative is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) using funding from NOAA.

Massachusetts’s Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) website, launched as part of a CDC pilot program in 2008, provides data and visualization tools that are useful in detecting environmental health risks and trends. Users can view rates of asthma, heart attacks, heat stress, and other health conditions exacerbated by climate change. While not all of its tools are related to the public health impact of climate change, the tracker’s tools do allow users - whether individuals, public health officials, or policy makers - to analyze health data and trends over time at the state, county, or census tract level.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) CoastSmart Communities Initiative is a program dedicated to assisting Maryland’s coastal communities address short- and long-term coastal hazards, such as coastal flooding, storm surge, and sea level rise. CoastSmart connects local planners to essential information, tools, people, and trainings.
