The purpose of this report is to provide an initial suite of tools and methods to assist in the planning and implementation of climate-smart restoration by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its partners and grantees. The National Wildlife Federation and EcoAdapt have partnered with NOAA’s Great Lakes Habitat Restoration Program to include climate change in the design and implementation of Great Lakes restoration projects. This guide presents a project-based approach to adjusting restoration activities to address the impacts of climate change on the region.

Climate Change Adaptation Across the Landscape: A survey of federal and state agencies, conservation organizations, and academic institutions in the United States

To better define "climate change adaptation" and to assess the current status of adaptation planning and implementation with the U. S. conservation community, 68 interviews across 44 organizations were conducted. These interviews included federal and state agency staff, conservationists within non-governmental organizations, and academic scientists thinking about or working on climate change adaptation. Using a survey guide and standard methodology, these experts were asked to define climate change adaptation, discuss ongoing adaptation planning efforts, provide examples of adaptation techniques and practices, and list costs associated with these techniques.

Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Habitats in the Pacific Northwest: An Analysis for Puget Sound, Southwestern Washington, and Northwestern Oregon

This report, by the National Wildlife Federation, documents results from a study on the projected impacts of sea-level rise to key coastal habitats in the Pacific Northwest. The study modeled sea-level rise up to 2 meters, based on input from prior studies, and examined its effects including the inundation of estuarine beaches, loss of tidal flats and marshes, and the inundation of inland swamps. The report also provides a brief description of how these effects will impact wildlife. Finally, the report makes one broad recommendation for planners to account for sea-level rise in their habitat restoration projects.
