Published by the Heinz Center, this report highlights available adaptation planning guidebooks and frameworks, as well as adaptation planning efforts underway at the time of the publication, primarily focused on Western developed countries.   This introductory survey report is designed to provide a “road map” to some of this information. It makes no claim to be comprehensive or to represent best practices on adaptation. Rather, the goal in producing this survey is to help generate discussion and the sharing of ideas, efforts and lessons learned across the adaptation community.

S. water managers, this report provides a full range of recommendations to consider when incorporating climate change into current agency planning and management activities. Climate Change and Land Use in Florida: Interdependencies and Opportunities

June 30, 2007

This report outlines the components of a sample state climate action plan as they relate to land use, including mitigation and adaptation options. The plan addresses enhanced resiliency to climate impacts related to land use in Florida, and the development of the capacity to participate in carbon markets and support economic development of the state. Climate projections for Florida are detailed, with specific attention to drought and the related impacts on agriculture, sea-level rise, and hurricanes.

Cities Preparing for Climate Change: A Study of Six Urban Regions

May 2007

To continue adaptation efforts for Toronto and provide support to other Canadian cities and municipalities, the Clean Air Partnership made site visits to six municipalities that, at the time, were considered “early adopters” or “early responders” on adaptation and prepared this report on the lessons for other cities from their experiences. The study provides lessons from the experience of six cities that have developed adaptation plans including London, New York, Boston, Halifax, Vancouver, and Seattle.

Coastal No Adverse Impact Handbook

The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have collaborated in producing this handbook. The handbook introduces local officials and concerned citizens to No Adverse Impact (NAI) concepts, and suggests how a coastal community can use the NAI approach to minimize the risks and maximize the benefits of their coastal environments.

This 2007 report provides an overview of King County’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to anticipate and adapt to projected climate change impacts. Major accomplishments in 2007 include the development of a vulnerable facilities inventory for divisions responsible for long-term asset management, the adoption of the King County Flood Control Zone District, and discussions of how to prepare for intense storm events and identify flood system co-benefits for public health and environmental quality.

2007

"Securing a Future for Fish and Wildlife: a Conservation Legacy for Iowans" is the first attempt to inventory the state's wildlife and evaluate the status of each species. It also examines stresses on wildlife and their habitats, including climate change, and presents conservation strategies for the next 25 years. Developed by a coalition of scientists, sportsmen, conservationists, members of the public, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the Iowa Wildlife Action Plan (IWAP) is "a proactive plan designed to conserve all wildlife in Iowa before they become rare and more costly to protect.
