The City of Berkeley California's Climate Action Plan presents recommendations for the city to mitigate and adapt to a changing climate. Chapter 6 is devoted to adaptation in response to California Executive Order S-13-08, and includes policy recommendations for declining water supply, extreme heat, and rising sea levels. It also recommends a regional vulnerability assessment be conducted with neighboring cities, and from these results, a regional adaptation plan be created. .

The City of San Rafael's Climate Change Action Plan describes the city's current efforts and recommendations to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Mayor Al Boro was one of the initial signers of the U. S. Conference of Mayors Climate Projection Agreement in 2005, pledging that the city will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol. To meet these goals, the City Council appointed a 16-member Green Ribbon Committee to lead a community process to prepare a plan to guide both the city organization and the entire community in responding to climate change.

The New Hampshire Climate Change Policy Task Force released its Climate Action Plan in March 2009, addressing both mitigation and adaptation. In this report, 67 recommended actions are organized within 10 strategies, of which one strategy is to "Plan for how to address existing and potential climate change impacts."

The Gulf of Mexico Alliance, a network of federal agencies and Gulf Coast state agencies, resource managers and planners, prepared this 5-year regional plan for action that addresses several climate related issues facing the Gulf. The plan addresses four distinct challenges: 1) the need to maintain healthy Gulf Coast economies while using coastal resources sustainably; 2) the imperative of improving the health of Gulf ecosystems; 3) adapting to sea-level rise; and 4) mitigating the effects of decreased water quality.

The Rising Waters project aims to strengthen the preparedness and adaptive capacity of the Hudson River Estuary Watershed to meet the impacts of future climate change. To help local communities of the Hudson Valley to prepare for climate impacts, the Rising Waters project used scenario planning methodologies to educate participants on important aspects of complicated problems and build a shared conceptual framework for dialogue leading to potential solutions. The report overviews the key climate risks for the region, and describes the multi-stakeholder convening process, scenario planning, and resiliency framework development.

Executive Order 59, signed by Governor Kaine in 2007, established the Governor's Commission on Climate Change. The Commission was charged with creating a Climate Change Action Plan that would evaluate expected impacts of climate change on Virginia's natural resources, public health, and the economic impact on the industries of agriculture, forestry, tourism, and insurance. In addition the Plan was to identify strategies to prepare for the projected impacts of climate change on the state.
The Action Plan discusses the overall climate effects on natural systems, such as ecosystems and the state's primary fish stocks, and the effects on human health.

As an island with a highly erodible sandstone bedrock, a sandy shoreline with many estuaries and marshes, and the ongoing submergence of its coast, Prince Edward Island has been identified as one of the areas most vulnerable to sea level rise in Canada. This strategy from the Government of Prince Edward Island presents the current and projected climate change impacts on the island, while delineating mitigation measures across many sectors, as well as general adaptation strategies.

This Coastal Regional Sediment Management Plan identifies four strategies to reduce coastal erosion along southern Monterey Bay in California. One of these strategies involves beach nourishment to protect critical infrastructure, including sections of California Highway 1.

This action plan was developed by the Governor's Action Team on Energy and Climate Change in October 2008. The plan contains 50 separate policy recommendations for mitigation and adaptation, and is part of the Phase 2 deliverables required under Executive Order 07-128. Chapter 8 of the plan provides an overview of current and projected impacts, as well as a planning framework for adaptation developed by the Adaptation Technical Working Group (TWG). The chapter also recommends early action items for policymakers to consider in the following areas: Research, Comprehensive Planning, Protection of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, Water Resources Management, Built Environment, Infrastructure and Community Protection, and Public Education and Outreach.

On April 20, 2007 Governor Martin O'Malley signed Executive Order 01.01.2007.07, establishing the Maryland Commission on Climate Change. The Commission created four Adaptation and Response Working Groups to develop the adaptation portions of the state's Climate Action Plan. With a focus on sea-level rise and coastal storms, the four groups were: Existing and Future Built Environment and Infrastructure; Financial and Economic; Human Health, Safety and Welfare; and Natural Resources.
