This Strategic Plan by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) serves two primary purposes. First, it provides a vision for the agency to accomplish their mission to “work with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people” in the face of accelerating climate change. Second, it provides direction for the organization and its employees; defining the role of the agency within the context of the Department of the Interior and the larger conservation community as it pertains to climate change and conservation.

New Orleans, Louisiana’s “Plan for the 21st Century,” also referred to as the Master Plan, is a City Charter-mandated planning framework for New Orleans’ physical, social, environmental, and economic future. Sponsored by the City Planning Commission, the Master Plan is New Orleans' primary policy and planning document, intended to guide the city’s growth for the next 20 years. The Master Plan has proposed climate adaptation related measures represented across many sectors, and contains a chapter dedicated to Green Infrastructure, and another to Resilience.

A product of The Nature Conservancy's Florida Reef Resilience Program (FRRP), this action plan was developed by reef managers, scientists and reef users from across South Florida as a guide for better coordination of reef management across local, state, and federal jurisdictions. It serves as a more detailed, Florida-specific companion to the climate change goals and objectives in the report “NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program Goals & Objectives 2010-2015” (NOAA CRCP 2009).

Developed by the Broward County Climate Change Task Force, the Climate Change Action Plan is a set of 126 recommended short, medium and long-term actions, that combined, form a coordinated countywide strategy for both mitigating and adapting to climate change. The recommendations include information on planning horizon, status of action, likely responsible County entity, potential community partners, estimated resources required, and recommended performance measures.

The South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control's Shoreline Change Advisory Committee proposes policies for shoreline management and provides guidance in this report for future coastal planning in South Carolina. The report is intended to "help clarify longstanding policy, reduce community vulnerabilities, resolve conflicts, improve public and private planning, save money, enhance key resource protections, reduce liabilities, and improve public access; but more generally, to ensure the long-term health of coastal shorelines and vitality of the coastal economy.

The Alaska chapter of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has developed a Conservation Action Plan (CAP) using TNC's CAP methodology. The plan covers coastal, nearshore, and marine environments of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas - including pelagic and benthic habitats, the continental shelf and ocean basins, lagoons and marshes, islands, and the shoreline - within the Exclusive Economic Zone of Alaska. Climate change and its effects are identified as the primary threats to natural resources of ecological and cultural importance in the region.

In February 2009, President Obama proposed $475 million for a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This Action Plan describes how the Initiative was to be executed from 2010 through 2014, building on the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy (GLRC Strategy), which provided the framework for the Action Plan.

In this report called for by the Maine Legislature, the state puts forth options for responding to the impacts of climate change. The plan relies on the 2009 impact assessment report entitled Maine’s Climate Future: An Initial Assessment developed by the University of Maine. The Department of Environmental Protection developed this plan through a stakeholder-based process to evaluate options and actions available to state businesses and people to prepare for “the most likely” impacts of climate change.

The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) 2010 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is hosted on a comprehensive website which includes other information regarding local hazard mitigation planning; interactive maps showing areas at risk due to events such as flooding, wildfire, and landslides; and strategic priorities and actions submitted by individual agencies participating in the Mitigation Plan. The plan itself identifies natural hazards with the greatest impact to the San Francisco Bay Area of California including climate change, flooding, landslides, wildfires and drought.

The Adaptation Advisory Group (AAG) to the Alaska Climate Change Sub-Cabinet created this adaptation response plan as part of Alaska's overall climate change strategy, which also addresses mitigation and research needs, and includes a special Immediate Action Workgroup report. For more information, "Alaska's IAWG 2008 and 2009 Final Report(s): Recommendations Report to the Governor's Sub-Cabinet on Climate Change" are reviewed in this clearinghouse as well.
