Biodiversity and Ecosystems Funding Programs

This tab includes federal funding sources that have been used to support adaptation and examples of how state and local governments are funding and financing adaptation efforts related to biodiversity and ecosystems. This is not intended to be a list of available grants for adaptation.

Resources are automatically presented by date, but can be sorted by date or title. Apply additional filters to narrow by state, region, funding organization type, impact, or jurisdictional focus.

Forest Resilience Bond - Fighting Fire with Finance

2017

Blue Forest Conservation is developing the Forest Resilience Bond (FRB) to monetize the benefits of forest restoration for climate resilience. Similar to an Environmental Impact Bond or sustainable infrastructure financing, the FRB is a public-private partnership that deploys private capital to support climate resilient national forests. The FRB creates value for a diverse set of stakeholders or beneficiaries of healthy forests - including the U. S. Forest Service (USFS), water and electric utilities, private water-dependent companies, state governments, and insurance companies.

U.S. DOI Pacific Island Climate Science Center: Research Funding - Hawaii, Marshall Islands

December 18, 2014

The U. S. Department of the Interior (DOI) is funding research through the Pacific Islands Climate Science Center (CSC) on the Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI) human migration dynamics in 2016. This project will examine the extent to which direct and indirect links between patterns of human migration and climate events can be identified. The researchers will examine migration trends and motivations, characterize changes that have taken place to local lands and ecosystems in the RMI, and use projections of climate change to understand which islands and communities may be at highest risk in the future.
