The City of Salem, Massachusetts Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan focuses on steps the city can take to remain a livable city with a strong economy and tourism sector in the face of climate change impacts. Key expected climate change impacts for Salem include extreme heat events, extreme precipitation events, sea level rise, and storm surge. The report addresses these impacts across the priority sectors of critical building infrastructure, water, energy, stormwater, transportation, and vulnerable populations.

From the Rhode Island state government, this plan outlines the state’s long term vision for economic development. The majority of this plan is dedicated to general economic development concerns such as income, job growth, and regulations, but it also contains a substantial section focused on climate adaptation (Goal 5, pgs. 97-115). Rising air and water temperatures, increasing precipitation, extreme weather, and sea level rise were identified as significant climate threats to Rhode Island’s economy.

This report describes the assessment of how climate change will impact the city of Laguna Woods - a small city within Orange County, California - and provides climate adaptation strategies and policy objectives for how the city can best address these challenges. The plan indicates that 80% of people living in Laguna Woods are 65 years or more old and finds that older adults are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, such as extreme heat and severe weather.

The 2014 Safeguarding California Plan augments previously identified strategies in light of advances in climate science and risk management options.

The City and County of Denver’s Climate Adaptation Plan was released in 2014 to accompany the 2007 Climate Action Plan. Working in concert, the objectives of the adaptation plan are to prepare, mitigate, and plan for risks associated with climate impacts to Denver, specifically: an increase in temperature and urban heat island effect; an increase in frequency of extreme weather events; reduced snowpack and earlier snowmelt.

Drawing on climate projections for Central Texas, the report includes a preliminary analysis of Austin’s climate-related threats and potential impacts to the operations and assets of nine city departments. Final recommendations are provided, focused on improving climate projections and vulnerability assessments, integrating resilience strategies within departmental planning, and coordinating with regional partners.

This plan identifies the amounts and sources of the Pioneer Valley’s greenhouse gas emissions; offers regional targets for GHG reduction in a Clean Energy Plan Update; and recommends detailed strategies for both mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts.
