Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate and Energy

October 28, 2013

The leaders of British Columbia, California, Oregon and Washington signed the Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate and Energy on October 28, 2013 - committing their governments to a comprehensive and far-reaching strategic alignment to combat climate change and promote clean energy. The Pacific Coast Collaborative was established on June 30, 2008 when the State Governors (and Premier of BC) signed the Pacific Coast Collaborative Agreement. This agreement was the first to unite Pacific leaders in developing a shared strategy and vision for the region.

Cleveland 2013 Climate Action Plan : Building Thriving and Healthy Neighborhoods

October 2013

Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s Office of Sustainability convened a 50-member Climate Action Advisory Committee with representatives of leading organizations from the commercial, industrial, educational, government, and non-profit sectors to inform and create Cleveland's Climate Action Plan (CAP). 33 actions are outlined in the plan, within 6 focus areas including: Energy Efficiency and Green Building; Advanced and Renewable Energy; Sustainable Mobility; Waste Reduction and Resource Conservation; Land Use and Clean Water; and Community Engagement and Public Health.

Colorado Drought Mitigation and Response Plan - 2013

September 2013

Statewide drought planning for Colorado has been developed through the preparation and implementation of the Colorado Drought Mitigation and Response Plan (DMRP). This plan was prepared by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, a division of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. In 2010, the DMRP went through a comprehensive revision. The 2013 updated plan outlines a mechanism for coordinated drought monitoring, impact assessment, response to emergency drought problems, and mitigation of long term drought impacts.

New York City Building Resiliency Task Force Summary Report

New York City's Building Resiliency Task Force coordinated with the NYC Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency, to study how to improve citywide infrastructure and building resiliency, as well as how to help communities become more resilient overall. While focused on New York City and its specific environment and building codes, this report may also be useful to other cities that wish to improve their resiliency.

National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan

As part of President Obama's National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes (or the National Ocean Policy), the National Ocean Council (NOC) released National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan in April 2013. The Plan describes specific actions Federal agencies will take to address key ocean challenges, give states and communities greater input in Federal decisions, streamline Federal operations, save taxpayer dollars, and promote economic growth.

Sustainable Salt Lake - Plan 2015 (Salt Lake City, Utah)

Baltimore Climate Action Plan (Maryland)

The City of Baltimore, Maryland's Climate Action Plan (CAP), was developed by the Office of Sustainability with the primary goal of reducing Baltimore’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while thoroughly integrating adaptation measures. The plan involved the creation of a 22 member Climate Action Plan Advisory Committee, as well as working groups for Building Energy, Land Use & Transportation, Growing a Green City, and Adaptation.

NYS 2100 Commission Recommendations to Improve the Strength and Resilience of the Empire State's Infrastructure

On November 15, 2012, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo convened the NYS 2100 Commission in response to the recent severe weather events such as Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and Tropical Storm Lee, asking the Commission to examine and evaluate key vulnerabilities in the State’s critical infrastructure systems, and to recommend actions that should be taken to strengthen and improve the resilience of those systems.

Sustainable DC Plan (Washington D.C.)

January 2013

The Sustainable DC Plan, also 'Sustainability DC', is the District’s first sustainability plan, and has the goal of making the District the healthiest, greenest, most livable city in the nation over the next 20 years. In January 2013, Mayor Gray signed the Sustainable DC Act into law, which is designed to help promote energy efficiency and renewable energy, including clean energy financing and supporting renewable energy incentive programs. The legislation will also address water pollution in rivers, protect children from toxic exposure, and aid in energy assistance for low-income and elderly residents, among other initiatives.

King County, Washington 2012 Strategic Climate Action Plan

December 3, 2012

King County’s 2012 Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) summarizes the County’s efforts in addressing climate change, outlining the county’s most critical goals and priority actions for preparing for climate impacts and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The plan is designed to inform policy and budget decisions, and to serve as the framework for annual reporting along with the County’s energy, green building and environmental purchasing programs. The plan responds to King County Council Ordinance 17270, which required the county executive to develop a strategic climate action plan by 2012, and update the plan in 2015.
