Regional Impacts of Climate Change: Four Case Studies in the United States

This report presents four case studies of climate change impacts in different regions of the country: The Heat is On: Climate Change & Heatwaves in the Midwest; The Importance of Climate Change for Future Wildfire Scenarios in the Western United States; Gulf Coast Wetland Sustainability in a Changing Climate; and Ramifications of Climate Change for Chesapeake Bay Hypoxia (also in the clearinghouse as individual entries). Each case study focuses on a specific type of impact of particular concern to a U.

The Heat is On: Climate Change and Heatwaves in the Midwest

December 2007

This paper from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (formerly the Pew Center on Global Climate Change) reviews the projected intensity and frequency of heat waves in the Midwestern United States for the 21st century, potential public health ramifications and related adaptation options. It is one of four case studies in an overall report, "Regional Impacts of Climate Change: Four Case Studies in the United States," that examines the impacts of particular interest to different regions of the U.

This report provides an assessment of Keene, New Hampshire's vulnerability to climate change, and presents goals and targets for adapting to climate change impacts. The recommendations outlined in the report include preparing for increased severe weather events, building more resilient ecosystems, improving water and food security, and improving public health infrastructure in reference to vector-borne diseases.

Preparing for Climate Change: A Guidebook for Local, Regional, and State Governments

September 2007

This guidebook was developed by the Climate Impacts Group (CIG) at the University of Washington and King County, Washington, in association with ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. The purpose of the guide is to help decision-makers in a local, regional, or state government prepare for climate change by recommending a detailed process for climate change preparedness based on familiar resources and tools.

Florida Executive Order 07-128 - Governor's Action Team on Energy and Climate Change

July 13, 2007

This executive order by then Governor Crist established the Governor's Action Team on Energy and Climate Change to develop a comprehensive Energy and Climate Change Action Plan. The order called the Governor's Action Team to submit recommendations for mitigation by November 2007 and adaptation strategies to "combat adverse impacts to society, public health, the economy and natural communities in Florida" by October 2008.

Confronting Climate Change in the U.S. Northeast: Science, Impacts, and Solutions

July 2007

This report describes the changing climate for the U. S. Northeast region and associated climate change impacts. Both high and low emission scenarios were analyzed to assess the impacts of two very different future climates on the region's coastal areas, marine fisheries, forests, agriculture, winter recreation, and human health sectors. Mitigation and adaptation policy options relevant to Northeast are presented, and the report includes a discussion on how to prioritize adaptation strategies.

GreenLA: An Action Plan to Lead the Nation in Fighting Global Warming (Los Angeles, California)

GreenLA is the City of Los Angeles, California's climate action plan that was published in 2007. While focused on mitigation, the plan contains a short adaptation section that addresses disaster preparedness, water security, fire preparedness, reducing the heat island effect, and protecting public health in Loas Angeles.

King County, Washington Climate Plan 2007

February 2007

This 2007 report provides an overview of King County’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to anticipate and adapt to projected climate change impacts. Major accomplishments in 2007 include the development of a vulnerable facilities inventory for divisions responsible for long-term asset management, the adoption of the King County Flood Control Zone District, and discussions of how to prepare for intense storm events and identify flood system co-benefits for public health and environmental quality.
