Center for Climate Strategies Adaptation Guidebook

September 13, 2011

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) "Comprehensive Climate Action: An Adaptation Guidebook," provides a complete stepwise, fact based, sector-specific methodology on climate adaptation action planning and policy development. The Guidebook details a methodology for developing and implementing a climate adaptation strategy at the multi-state, state/province, regional, or local levels, and provides several resources, tools, and example frameworks. According to CCS, the process can be used by a diverse group of stakeholders and technical experts, working with agency officials and the public, to build consensus on adaptation plans and programs that are fully implementable in less than a year.

City of Chula Vista, California Climate Adaptation Plan

May 2011

In 2010, the City of Chula Vista's Climate Change Working Group (CCWG) evaluated the potential impacts from climate change on municipal infrastructure and services, and recommended strategies to adapt to these potential impacts. In October 2010, the CCWG presented 11 recommended Climate Adaptation Strategies (see Appendix A) to the City Council to address climate change vulnerabilities and solutions related to energy and water supplies, public health, wildfires, biodiversity, coastal resources, and the local economy.

PlaNYC 2030 - A Greener Greater New York

First released in 2007, PlaNYC was an unprecedented effort undertaken by New York City Mayor Bloomberg to prepare the city for one million more residents, strengthen the economy, combat climate change, and enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers. The Plan brought together over 25 City agencies to work toward the vision of a greener, greater New York.

This compilation of nine white papers includes an introduction to the climate science and impacts relevant to Vermont and eight sector-specific reports in the areas of Agriculture, Water Resources, Recreation, Forestry, Public Health, Public Safety, Fish and Wildlife, and Transportation.   Each sector report provides an overview of the climate impacts and vulnerabilities facing that sector, what programs are already in place to address those challenges, prospective adaptation strategies, and policy recommendations.
