Department of Transportation (DOT) replaced the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program with the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) transportation grant program. BUILD is a discretionary grant program that makes federal funding available on a competitive basis to surface transportation projects that meet "merit criteria. The U. S. DOI/USGS Northwest Climate Science Center (NW CSC) has announced 2018 funding available for Principal Investigators (PIs) from the NW CSC University Consortium (University of Washington, Boise State Univ. , Univ. of Montana, Washington State Univ. , and Western Washington Univ. ) as well as all USGS PIs. Funded projects will address the goals identified in the NW CSC Science Agenda for 2018-23, through scientific research or data synthesis on climate impacts on endangered species, regional adaptation and management, and social systems.

EPA’s Water Infrastructure and Resiliency Finance Center developed this Water Finance Clearinghouse which is designed to support communities in financing sustainable drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure solutions. This online portal includes two searchable databases: one of available funding sources from for water infrastructure, and the second offers resources related to financing mechanisms for community-level water infrastructure. Many funding programs listed address water supply resilience, sustainability and climate change adaptation measures.

Funding Navigation for California Communities is an online portal for funding opportunities directed at local governments of California. Grants and other funding resources are categorized under seven project types, and those addressing climate adaptation and resiliency are primarily found under the categories of Drinking Water, Parks, Stormwater, and Wastewater Management. Funding opportunities are profiled for adaptation projects related to water desalination, drought preparedness, restoration of natural floodplains and wetlands, urban and community forestry, green infrastructure, rainwater and stormwater capture and reuse, and adapting water infrastructure systems to climate change, among others.

The California legislature passed AB 733 specifically authorizing the creation of enhanced infrastructure financing districts for climate change adaptation projects, and the legislation was signed into law by Governor Brown on October 11, 2017.

Resilient by Design is a collaborative design challenge for the San Francisco, California Bay area to develop 10 innovative community-based solutions that will strengthen the region’s resilience to sea level rise, severe storms, flooding and earthquakes. The Resilient by Design - Bay Area Challenge was modeled on New York's Rebuild by Design, a successful program pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

California Assembly Bill 2722 established the Transformative Climate Communities Program, to be administered by the Strategic Growth Council (SGC). The forthcoming Program will accelerate greenhouse gas reduction and advance local climate action in disadvantaged communities through an integrated, community-based approach. The Program intends to help realize the State’s vision of “Vibrant Communities and Landscapes,” demonstrating how meaningful community engagement coupled with strategic investments in transportation, housing, food, energy, natural resources, and waste can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution, while also addressing growing equity issues and enhancing economic opportunity and community resilience.

Climate Resilient and Equitable Water Systems (CREWS) consists of 24 nonprofits - Kresge Foundation grantees - who are building solutions for low-income communities in U. S. cities to adapt to climate enhanced storm and flood impacts. CREWS programs are transforming urban stormwater and wastewater systems with climate resilient integrated water-management practices and socially equitable solutions. CREWS is an initiative of the Kresge Foundation’s Environment Program, focused on climate resilience through adaptation, mitigation, and social justice.

DC Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water), the water utility in Washington, D. C. , has announced the nation’s first Environmental Impact Bond (EIB), an innovative bond to fund the construction of green infrastructure to manage stormwater runoff and improve the District’s water quality.
