City of Santa Monica Climate Action & Adaptation Plan

May 28, 2019

In May 2019, the Santa Monica City Council adopted the Climate Action & Adaptation Plan (CAAP), a living document that outlines strategies for achieving carbon reduction and climate resilience goals by the year 2030. The CAAP traces a pathway to achieving carbon neutrality while also fostering the implementation of a four-pronged climate adaptation framework to address the impacts of climate change experienced by members of the community. Relating to adaptation, the CAAP outlines 8 resilience objectives among four sectors: Climate Ready Community; Water Self-Sufficiency; Coastal Flooding Preparedness; and Low Carbon Food & Ecosystems.

Sustainable DC 2.0

April 23, 2019

The District of Columbia (Washington, D. C. ) released its Sustainable DC 2. 0 plan on April 23, 2019, updating its 2013 plan. The 2. 0 plan reports on the District's progress in meeting its sustainability goals: reporting that 27% of the 2013 plan’s actions have been completed and 71% are in progress. New sustainability actions are presented under 13 focal topics including: Governance, Equity, Built Environment, Climate, Economy, Education, Energy, Food, Health, Nature, Transportation, Waste, and Water.

L.A.'s Green New Deal

April 2019

In April 2019, Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, unveiled the L. A. Green New Deal, a vision for building a sustainable future through protecting the environment, improving community resilience, expanding access to healthy food and open space, and promoting justice. The Green New Deal is the first four-year update to the “2015 pLAn” and evokes ambitious goals for combating climate change and purveying environmental equity. Minnesota State Hazard Mitigation Plan 2019 - Including Recommended Actions for Climate Change Adaptation

March 18, 2019

Minnesota’s 2019 State All-Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) includes recommended actions for climate adaptation for the first time in the state’s hazard mitigation planning process. Developed in collaboration with the Interagency Climate Adaptation Team (ICAT), the HMP includes priority adaptation needs for state government from the ICAT 2017 Report - Adapting to Climate Change in Minnesota. The HMP provides assessments of hazard risk, reviews current state and local hazard mitigation and climate adaptation capacity and programs, and includes climate adaptation strategies for Minnesota’s state agencies and programs.

Baltimore, Maryland 2018 Disaster Preparedness and Planning Project (DP3)

December 20, 2018

The City of Baltimore, Maryland Disaster Preparedness and Planning Project (DP3) was first completed in 2013 and has been updated in 2018, to reflect the city’s commitment to reduce impact from current and future natural hazards, including climate change. Entitled a "combined all-hazard mitigation and climate adaptation plan," the 2018 DP3 identifies Baltimore's vulnerabilities to hazards including coastal storms, flooding, extreme heat, and high winds. The plan focuses on developing strategies that will reduce or eliminate loss of life and property damage within priority urban sectors of Infrastructure, Buildings, Natural Systems, and Public Services.
