The 2017 edition of Oregon’s Integrated Water Resources Strategy builds on the state’s 2012 strategy and is aimed at predicting and meeting the state’s instream and out-of-stream water needs, both now and in the future. The updated version addresses climate change as a “cross-cutting issue” and illustrates the need for continuous monitoring of water resources as predictions based off of historical data becomes unpredictable because of climate change. The state’s past efforts are highlighted, including a 2015 Executive Order which called for the 2017 strategy to address drought resiliency, which it does in Chapter 5 (section 5.

The Detroit Action Plan provides an accessible introduction to climate change, an overview of the expected trends and impacts in Detroit, and strategies for mitigating emissions and preparing for climate risks. In 2011, the nonprofit Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice convened the Detroit Climate Action Collaborative (DCAC) that brought 27 organizations together to collectively envision the strategy presented in this plan.

The Seattle Climate Preparedness Strategy presents a plan to improve the resilience of the city’s infrastructure and services to climate change. Seattle’s overarching climate resilience vision is to reduce emissions and prepare for climate-related impacts while building vibrant neighborhoods, fostering economic prosperity, and enhancing equity. The strategy considers climate change’s impacts on many of Seattle’s public sectors, and suggests strategies for the city to reduce or eliminate those impacts in each sector.

The City of Chester, Pennsylvania introduced the Chester City Green Stormwater Infrastructure Plan in 2017 as a means of addressing consistent stormwater pollution and overflow into the Delaware River, Chester Creek, and Ridley Creek watersheds. Chester’s combined sewer overflow (CSO) system often is overwhelmed during high rain and runoff events, which leads to increased flooding and water pollution and degradation of the river basin. The plan details Chester’s specific infrastructure needs, as well as the environmental and social benefits of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI). It also analyzes common GSI techniques including rain gardens, green roofs, stormwater planters, and porous pavements, and includes their typical cost. The plan then lists 20 potential sites within the City for GSI projects, guidance for first steps, suggestions for effective community engagement, and potential sources of both public and private funding. To fund the GSI projects, the City formed a community-based public-private partnership (CBP3), which is a different approach to financing stormwater management that expands on the traditional public-private partnership model by incorporating considerations of a community’s economic development needs. Coupled with its focus on green infrastructure as a primary means of stormwater management, this structure promotes not only improvements in water quality but in the community’s overall quality of life. The plan will also address equity through hiring local contractors for the infrastructure projects, training local workers to maintain projects, and creating new maintenance jobs for community members.

The City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania released its Resilience Strategy in March 2017 to provide a holistic strategy for helping the city to manage challenges from a changing environment, globalization, and urbanization. The Strategy sets goals, objectives, and action organized around a “P4” community-centered framework addressing resilience in terms of People, Place, Planet, and Performance. The Strategy is intended to be a blueprint to help the city prepare for resilience challenges by helping the city improve coordination among government and non-governmental organizations, improve budgeting and capital coordination citywide, ensure the institutionalization of resilience practices, and increase resident engagement and empowerment.

The Water section of Los Angeles County, California's Climate Action Framework (A Greater LA) identifies climate change impacts on water resources in the Los Angeles County region, and regional-scale priorities for improving the reliability of the region's water supply under future conditions. The Framework, which also contains sections for four other sectors, was developed by the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC) to support more coordinated and collaborative regional policies relating to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The City of Norfolk Virginia’s Vision 2100 sets out a high-level strategy to adapt to sea-level rise and flooding through the end of the century. By taking this long-term approach, Norfolk hopes to begin making planning and investment decisions now that will help ensure it remains a “dynamic, water-based community” as climate impacts become increasingly acute in the future.

Australia's State of Victoria Climate Change Adaptation Plan defines Victoria's climate change action priorities for 2017-2020. The Plan sets out the Government’s strategic priorities, measures and responses for adaptation in Victoria through 2020, as required by the state's Climate Change Act 2010. Victoria defines immediate priorities to address localized climate impacts and risks, and describes methods for building partnerships for an integrated response to climate change.
