In 2014, the Model Forest Policy Program (MFPP), Climate Solutions University (CSU), and the Resource Conservation District of Tehama County (RCDTC) worked together to create a climate adaptation framework for the forest and water systems in Tehama County, California. The RCDTC took the local leadership role to engage with CSU’s Forest and Water Strategies program to initiate the discussion of local climate resilience. The framework addresses specific climate risks based on local environmental and socio-economic conditions, and provides detailed guidance and strategies for adaptive planning.

This report describes the assessment of how climate change will impact the city of Laguna Woods - a small city within Orange County, California - and provides climate adaptation strategies and policy objectives for how the city can best address these challenges. The plan indicates that 80% of people living in Laguna Woods are 65 years or more old and finds that older adults are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, such as extreme heat and severe weather.

The neighborhood of City Heights is centrally located in the San Diego, California metropolitan area. This Urban Greening Plan establishes a system of Green Streets within City Heights based on surrounding land use, traffic intensity, and function of the streets. The plan provides recommendations on how to successfully implement and maintain these Green Streets, and how to improve and protect the public spaces and resources found in the community. It integrates urban forestry through enhancements to the public right-of-way that include a street tree plan and landscape treatments, as well as bicycle and pedestrian facility improvements to increase active transportation, reduce the urban heat island effect and promote a healthy environment.

The Plan identifies the District strategy to continue investments to meet the county’s future water supply needs through at least 2035. Developed by the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR), the Ocean Beach Master Plan (OBMP) provides a long-term strategy for responding to current and future sea-level rise impacts along the 3. 5-mile stretch of San Francisco’s Ocean Beach, and provides recommendations for adapting the Great Highway, which runs adjacent to the beach. The strategy focuses on the protection and relocation of transportation infrastructure, including: (1) rerouting the southern portion of the Great Highway; (2) protecting and restoring the shoreline and beach; (3) reducing the width of the Great Highway; (4) repairing seaside dunes; (5) facilitating faster travel between Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach; and (6) improving bicycle paths and sidewalks near Ocean Beach.
