This report details the struggles of the community of Point Hope, Alaska to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Major climate change impacts affecting the community include: changes in temperature and precipitation, sea level rise, erosion, permafrost melt, thinning ice and increased snow accumulation, decreases in water quality and supply, and food safety and security.

The study describes the activities of eight water utilities who have conducted climate vulnerability assessments: East Bay Municipal Utility District (CA), City of Boulder Utilities Division (CO), Denver Water (CO), Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Portland Water Bureau (OR), Lower Colorado River Authority (CO), and Seattle Public Utilities (WA). This report provides a review of best practices in this emerging effort across the industry for the purpose of informing utilities considering engaging in this issue about the various methods used by their peers.

At the request of the World Bank the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) developed this report to provide guiding principles, processes, and methodologies for incorporating climate change impacts into analytical framework for evaluating water sector projects, with a particular emphasis on impacts on freshwater ecosystems. It was developed for use by the World Bank, however, much of the content is valuable for U.S. resource managers as well.

This paper presents the results of a global analysis from the World Bank’s 'Economics of Adaptation to Climate Change' study of the costs of adapting infrastructure to climate change over the period of 2010 to 2050. An approach to estimating the costs of adapting to climate change is presented along with the estimated results for major components of infrastructure. In this context, infrastructure includes transport (especially roads, rail, and ports), electricity, water and sanitation, and communications, along with urban and social infrastructure such as urban drainage, urban housing, health and educational facilities (both rural and urban), and general public buildings.

This report addressed the socioeconomic and ecological effects that may arise from climate change in the Florida Keys, including two appendices that identify key issues related to the future of the Keys over the 21st century. Four background papers address the global environment (Hoegh Guldberg 2010a,b,c,d), which are described first to put the Florida Keys into context. This research is part of the Socioeconomic Research and Monitoring Program in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, as conducted by the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration (NOAA).

This report is the final set of recommendations from the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force. The Task Force, a group of 24 senior federal officials led by the Council on Environmental Quality was tasked by President Obama in June 2009 with developing recommendations to enhance the nation's ability to maintain healthy, resilient, and sustainable ocean, coastal, and Great Lake resources for the benefit of present and future generations. One of the National Priority Objectives identified as a premise to the recommendations is to strengthen resiliency of coastal communities and marine and Great Lakes environments, and their abilities to adapt to climate change impacts and ocean acidification.

The National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes - or the 'National Ocean Policy' - was enacted by President Obama in 2010. The purpose of this Executive Order is "to achieve an America whose stewardship ensures that the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes are healthy and resilient, safe and productive, and understood and treasured so as to promote the well-being, prosperity, and security of present and future generations."

This document provides the results of a municipal sea-level rise vulnerability assessment conducted for Satellite Beach, Florida. Based on conservative modeling estimates, the city is at high risk of inundation from both sea-level rise and storm surge, and adaptive action is strongly recommended.

The National Roadmap for Responding to Climate Change, provided through the U. S. Forest Service Climate Change Resource Center (CCRC), is a guide for forest managers to "prepare their forests for the effects of climate change while enhancing their water resources. " The guide focuses on three types of activities: assessing current risks, vulnerabilities, policies, and gaps in knowledge; engaging partners in seeking solutions and learning from as well as educating the public and employees on climate change issues; and managing for resilience, in ecosystems as well as in human communities, through adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable consumption strategies.
