The Colorado Climate Preparedness Project (CCPP) was initiated to to assist Colorado in continuing to prepare itself for climate variability and change by providing a catalog of climate vulnerabilities and current adaptation activities in the state. The project focuses on five key sectors that were identified by the state advisory team as particularly sensitive to the impacts of climate variability and change including: Water; Wildlife, ecosystems and forests; Electricity; Agriculture; and Climate-sensitive tourism and outdoor recreation.

Hazards-United States (Hazus) is a nationally applicable standardized methodology that contains models for estimating potential losses from earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes. Hazus uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to estimate physical, economic, and social impacts of disasters. It graphically illustrates the limits of identified high-risk locations due to earthquake, hurricane, and floods. Users can then visualize the spatial relationships between populations and other more permanently fixed geographic assets or resources for the specific hazard being modeled, a crucial function in the pre-disaster planning process.

This site allows users to see current and future maps of bird species distributions, vegetation, or climate variables. Using sophisticated species distribution modeling techniques, this site presents current and potential futures for bird communities in California based on different climate model outputs. Future bird distributions are based on regional climate model projections for the periods 2038-2070 (IPCC Scenario A2) and 2080-2099 (IPCC Scenario A1B). Models were developed for over 80 California Partners in Flight (CalPIF) focal species, of which 60 non-special-status species are represented in this tool.

The Climate Impacts Group (CIG) provides these maps to show how four important parameters of climate - temperature, precipitation, snowpack, and soil moisture - vary over time in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) as a result of natural climate variability and climate change. These maps show climate anomalies associated with different patterns of climate variability compared to average conditions during 1915-2003. The data are derived from historical climate measurements, global climate model simulations, and a spatially-distributed hydrology model.

PRECIS stands for "Providing Regional Climates for Impacts Studies". This regional climate modeling (RCM) system was developed at the Hadley Centre at the UK Met Office, and is designed to run on a PC under Linux. PRECIS (pronounced PRAY-sea) helps generate high-resolution climate change information for as many regions of the world as possible, in order to support the generation of climate change scenarios for scientific and planning needs, such as impact and vulnerability assessments.

The Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) program (CFDA Number: 97. 047) provides funding to support states, territories, Indian tribal governments, communities, and universities for hazard mitigation planning and the implementation of mitigation projects prior to a disaster event. This program promotes implementation of activities designed to reduce injuries, loss of life, and damage and destruction to property from natural hazards. PDM grants are to be awarded on a competitive basis and without reference to state allocations, quotas, or other formula-based allocation of funds.
