The Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) was directed by SB 964 in 2011 to develop and implement a general permit regulation that authorizes and encourages the use of living shorelines as the preferred alternative for stabilizing tidal shorelines.

The Coastal Conservancy’s Climate Ready program focuses on protecting important coastal resources and habitats from the current and future impacts of climate change, along the California coast and within the San Francisco Bay. The 'Guidance for Addressing Climate Change in California Coastal Conservancy Projects' provides grantees and Conservancy staff clarification, information and resources to assist in understanding and applying the Conservancy’s adopted Climate Change Policy and Project Selection Criteria.

Southeast Florida with its populous coastal counties, subtropical environment, porous geology and low topography is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, especially sea level rise. At the October 23, 2009 Southeast Florida (SE FL) Regional Climate Leadership Summit, the local diversity in sea level rise (SLR) projections was highlighted as a concern and a barrier to achieving regionally consistent adaptation policies. Following the summit, the four counties of Southeast Florida (Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) entered into the SE FL Regional Climate Change Compact to work cooperatively to address climate concerns in the region.

The FY 2011-2015 Virginia Coastal Needs and Strategies report (for projects conducted between October 1, 2011 - September 30, 2016) was a product of Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Coastal Zone Management (CZM) program. The Assessment was reviewed and approved in April 2011 by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA's) Ocean and Coastal Resource Management program.

With assistance from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center, the Miami-Dade County Office of Sustainability hosted a workshop for county department staff from across all sectors to learn about potential sea level rise (SLR) impacts on county assets and processes, provide input on a county-wide vulnerability assessment, and identify opportunities to adapt to SLR and other climate impacts. The workshop employed NOAA’s Roadmap for Adapting to Coastal Risk, which provides communities with a framework for conducting a participatory assessment of community vulnerability to coastal hazards as well as an approach for incorporating relevant risk information into local planning.

Prepared by the Department of City Planning of New York City, Vision 2020 is a comprehensive waterfront and waterway sustainability plan aimed at transforming the city's 520-mile shoreline with parks, industry, and housing, and capitalizing on its waterways to promote waterborne transportation, recreation, maritime activity, and natural habitats. This framework for the next decade is an outgrowth of Bloomberg's PlaNYC long-term sustainability blueprint issued in 2007. The plan establishes policies for the expanded use of NYC's waterways, or the “Blue Network,” for transportation, recreation, education, and for improving water quality.

The Waterfront Action Agenda is the three year implementation component of 'Vision 2020: New York City Comprehensive Waterfront Plan. ' The Action Agenda organizes each project under one of the eight goals of 'Vision 2020', identifies the City agency leading its implementation, and lists the date by which the project will be undertaken. The Agenda includes 130 specific, high-priority projects - a set of projects chosen for their ability to catalyze investment in waterfront enhancement. It contains neighborhood strategies and specifies recommendations for individual sites along the waterfront.

The study, by the Nature Conservancy, is intended to catalyze interest in examining sea level rise impacts and developing adaptation strategies for the Florida Keys and similar islands in Florida and around the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Basin. In 2007, the Conservancy acquired high-resolution Digital Elevation Models derived from airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) data for Big Pine Key. Future shoreline locations and distribution of major habitats of Big Pine Key in the year 2100 were estimated using sea level rise scenarios described in the scientific literature.

The purpose of this report is to provide an initial suite of tools and methods to assist in the planning and implementation of climate-smart restoration by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its partners and grantees. The National Wildlife Federation and EcoAdapt have partnered with NOAA’s Great Lakes Habitat Restoration Program to include climate change in the design and implementation of Great Lakes restoration projects. This guide presents a project-based approach to adjusting restoration activities to address the impacts of climate change on the region.
