The Boulder County Climate Change Preparedness Plan was prepared by Stratus Consulting for Boulder County Commissioner’s Sustainability Office. The plan is aimed at improving the resilience of the county and its municipalities to the vulnerabilities of climate change. The report identifies the potential impacts of climate change, explores the implications of these changes in the context of resource management institutions, and outlines opportunities for adaptation planning efforts.

The San Francisco Planning and Research Association (SPUR) facilitated a coordinated effort among multiple agencies to create this long-range plan for San Francisco's Ocean Beach, 3. 5 miles of beach and rugged coastline from the Cliff House to Fort Funston. The Ocean Beach Master Plan (OBMP) presents recommendations for the management and protection of Ocean Beach, and addresses the impact of sea level rise, the physical and ecological processes shaping the beach, and improved integration with its natural, recreational, and urban contexts.

This brief reviews three approaches that communities are pursuing to adapt to climate change:
New Mexico's Active Water Resource Management program, which put rules into place that allow for temporary water use changes in real time in case of drought.
The Water Utility Climate Alliance (WUCA), which was founded by water managers concerned by a gap in climate assessment and adaptation science needed to support their decisions.
Colorado's Joint Front Range Climate Change Vulnerability Study, which brings together the state and water utilities to assess climate change's impact on local water availability.

Washington’s 2012 Stream Habitat Restoration Guidelines, prepared for the Washington State Aquatic Habitat Guidelines Program, include a Climate Change Appendix that summarizes the science and impacts of climate change on stream habitat in Washington, and strategies for ensuring that stream habitat restoration efforts are designed to be resilient to climate change impacts. The purpose of the Guidelines is to promote process based natural stream restoration, rehabilitating aquatic and riparian ecosystems.

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has evaluated how each state in the U.S. is preparing for water related climate impacts, and shares the results in this comprehensive report. The findings differentiate the best prepared and most engaged states on climate change preparedness issues from those that are largely unprepared and "lagging behind."

This report was prepared by the Washington Department of Ecology, offering recommendations on how existing state policies and programs can better prepare Washington State to respond to the impacts of climate change. This response strategy was built in collaboration with the state departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Fish and Wildlife, Health, Natural Resources, and Transportation - integrating the recommendations of the four advisory groups. It also utilizes the best available science on climate impacts from the Washington Climate Change Impacts Assessment, as well as Washington’s initial adaptation plan developed in 2008 under Executive Order 07-02.

Banking on Green describes the cost-effectiveness of green infrastructure (GI) for stormwater management, and the co-benefits of energy reduction, flood mitigation, and improved public health outcomes. American Rivers, Water Environment Federation, American Society of Landscape Architects, and ECONorthwest created this report to put information from GI performance research into the hands of decision makers. Detailing the benefits of green infrastructure, along with documented examples of successful GI practices, this document provides information on the economics and climate change adaptation benefits of GI for policymakers, municipal and utility officials, and the general public.

Produced by the California Institute of Energy and the Environment based in the University of California, this is a brief summary report on the 2012 Vulnerability and Adaptation Study, California's third major assessment on climate change. Our Changing Climate 2012 used climate projections and refined topographic, demographic and land use information to identify California's primary vulnerabilities to climate change. The report describes extreme heat impacts on public health and vulnerable populations, water supply and management, energy sector risks of wildfire on transmission and drought to hydropower, sea level rise and coastal storms, the increasing risks of California's ecosystems and species to wildfire, and agriculture's vulnerabilities and potential for adaptation.

The San Diego Bay Sea Level Rise Strategy provides a regional approach to sea level rise adaptation, and is a foundation to guide coordinated adaptation planning among participating local jurisdictions. The strategy was prepared by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, and resulted from the efforts of a collaborative, regional stakeholder process undertaken as part of the San Diego Regional Climate Protection Initiative, a partnership with the San Diego Foundation and all local governments in the San Diego region.
