The authors examine potential issues that may arise from climate change given the rising population density in coastal regions and the expected volatility of weather patterns. In 2009, the City of Biloxi, Mississippi, updated its 2020 Comprehensive Plan to reflect a new vision of Biloxi as a “prosperous, resilient city for the 21st century. ” Hurricane Katrina highlighted the city’s land use vulnerabilities and development challenges. In the land-use chapter (ch. 3) the plan discusses potential impacts from climate change, including an anticipated rise in sea levels of between 2 to 4 feet, increasingly intense storms, and more heavy downpour events. Further, the plan identifies sea-level rise and warming ocean temperatures as a threat to wetlands, aquatic ecosystems, and indigenous tree cover.

The brief recommends establishing better-defined rights and responsibilities for commercial and recreational fisheries in order to create an adaptation portfolio for marine and coastal resources. In addition, the report suggests establishing a broader ocean governance framework that includes comprehensive planning, allocation of dominant use zones and user rights within zones, and ecological standards.

With support from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), the Town of Bowers Beach is developing a Coastal Resiliency Action Plan to increase resiliency and reduce hazard vulnerability to the current and future effects of coastal storms and climate change. Bowers Beach currently experiences a number of coastal related problems including flooding of streets, episodic storm damage, coastal erosion, and other coastal hazard impacts.

This Interim Federal Action Plan has been developed to further the goals of the California Bay-Delta Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered into by six federal agencies on September 29, 2009. The MOU sets out the Obama Administration's vision of a healthy and sustainable Bay-Delta ecosystem that "provides for a high-quality, reliable, and sustainable long-term water supply for California, and restores the environmental integrity and sustainability of the Bay-Delta ecosystem."

This paper discusses three ways in which infrastructure-related decision making can be responsive to climate change impacts. it suggests three different policies that would affect the way transportation investments are made and existing structures are maintained. First, it suggests that agencies shift to an asset management approach that incorporates climate change projections. This approach will make transportation decision-makers more sensitive to the risks and costs imposed by climate change impacts.

The Recommended Sea Level Rise Scenarios were established by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Sea Level Rise (SLR) Technical Workgroup to support the development of the DNREC Sea Level Rise Policy. The SLR Technical Workgroup is comprised of scientists from DNREC, University of Delaware, Partnership for the Delaware Estuary and the Center for the Inland Bays. The Workgroup determined the Delaware SLR scenarios by employing published expert summaries of existing data and predictions from national and international panels and federal agencies.
