Organization
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a leading conservation organization working to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. TNC is joining with policy makers, community members, businesses, scientists, industry leaders and others to slow the pace of climate change. TNC is developing science-based adaptation strategies to safeguard habitats around the world, and ensure that the habitats continue to provide for the people who rely on them, while also creating pilot projects to help regions develop their own adaptation plans.
Organization
Founded in late 2011 through a collaborative effort involving the State of Louisiana, Senator Mary Landrieu, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation (BRAF), the Institute connects academic, public, and private research providers and conducts applied research to serve communities and industry. In 2014, the Institute was selected as the Resources and Ecosystem Sustainability, Tourism Opportunities, and Revived Economy of the Gulf Coast (RESTORE) Act Center of Excellence for Louisiana.

The Climate Ready Estuaries Program, of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, works to help coastal managers protect estuaries from the effects of climate change. Climate Ready Estuaries provides a variety of information on developing coastal adaptation plans for coastal managers both within the National Estuary Programs and elsewhere. These resources relate to vulnerability assessments, developing and implementing adaptation strategies, engaging and educating stakeholders, and sharing past experience with coastal managers.

As the Nation's largest water, earth, and biological science and civilian mapping agency, the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) collects, monitors, analyzes, and provides scientific understanding about natural resource conditions, issues, and problems. The mission of the USGS is to serve the Nation by providing reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and maintain our quality of life.

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) climate and global change adaptation goal is to develop practical, nationally consistent and regionally tailored, legally justifiable and cost-effective adaptation measures, both structural and nonstructural, that will reduce vulnerabilities and improve resilience to these challenges (USACE Climate Change Adaptation Plan and Report 2011- see separate entry). The entire portfolio of USACE Civil Works water resources infrastructure and programs, existing and proposed, may be affected by climate change and require some form of adaptation.

The Coastal Resources Center at the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island is dedicated to advancing coastal management worldwide. In addition to assisting in the development and implementation of coastal management programs in Rhode Island and the United States, the Center is active in countries throughout the world promoting the sustainable use of coastal resources for the benefit of all. Implementing coastal management projects in the field, building capacity through education and training, and sharing lessons learned and information throughout the coastal community are the foundation of the Coastal Resources Center's work.

University of Southern California Sea Grant (USC Sea Grant) supports projects addressing the issues and opportunities of Los Angeles and other metropolitan areas near, using, and benefiting from the sea. USC Sea Grant funds research on the critical issues associated with the influence of massive cities on the sea, promotes connections between scientists and the policy-makers who must craft solutions, and broadly distributes information to the electorate through public education outreach efforts.

Virginia Sea Grant (VASG) facilitates research, educational, and outreach activities promoting sustainable management of marine resources. The overall goal of VASG is to define and help resolve emerging problems at local, regional, and national scales, as well as to provide impartial information to all who use or manage marine resources. VASG aims to foster integration of extension, education, communication, and research functions to achieve science-to-management impacts, technology transfer, and the use of science by decision-makers, citizens, and students.

Washington Sea Grant serves communities, industries, and the people of Washington state, the Pacific Northwest and the nation through research, education and outreach by: 1) Identifying and addressing important marine issues; 2) Providing better tools for management of the marine environment and use of its resources; and 3) Initiating and supporting strategic partnerships within the marine community. Washington Sea Grant-sponsored research maximizes the productive use of marine resources while preserving and helping to restore essential qualities of a healthy marine environment.

The Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) is one of six regional climate centers in the U. S. managed by NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). The mission of the WRCC is to disseminate high quality climate data and information pertaining to the western United States; foster better use of this information in decision-making; conduct applied research related to climate issues; and improve the coordination of climate-related activities at state, regional and national scales. The WRCC serves as a focal point for coordination of applied climate activities in the West; maintains links to other climate programs such as the NCDC, state climatologists, and other Regional Climate Centers (RCCs); and conducts applied research on climate issues affecting the West.
