NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), a division of the Department of Commerce, is the federal agency responsible for the stewardship of the nation's living marine resources and their habitat. NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service is responsible for the management, conservation and protection of living marine resources within the United States' Exclusive Economic Zone (water three to 200 miles offshore). Using the tools provided by the Magnuson-Stevens Act, NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service assesses and predicts the status of fish stocks, ensures compliance with fisheries regulations and works to reduce wasteful fishing practices.

NOAA Office for Coastal Management

The Office for Coastal Management (OCM) is tasked with implementing the Coastal Zone Management Act. OCM activities include working with states and territories to conserve and protect coral reefs, operating a system of National Estuarine Research Reserves, and developing a system of marine protected areas.

National Estuarine Research Reserve System

The National Estuarine Research Reserve System is a federal-state partnership. The federal government provides funding and administers the system, but the sites are managed on a day to day basis by state agencies, universities and other local partners. The Reserve System has identified climate change and its impacts as strategic priorities, and is developing an initiative with key actions to address climate change adaptation, mitigation, and to promote resilience of estuary ecosystems.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that preserves and restores the nation’s native wildlife species and habitats. Created by Congress in 1984, NFWF directs public conservation funding to the most pressing environmental needs and matches those investments with private funds.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a scientific agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA predicts dangerous weather, charts seas and skies, guides the use and protection of ocean and coastal resources, and conducts research to improve stewardship of the environment.

National Sea Grant College Program (Sea Grant)

The National Sea Grant College Program is a nationwide network (administered through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), of 32 university-based programs that work with coastal communities. Sea Grant engages this network of the nation's top universities in conducting scientific research, education, training, and extension projects designed to foster science-based decisions about the use and conservation of aquatic resources.

New Hampshire Sea Grant

The New Hampshire Sea Grant (NH Sea Grant) provides support, leadership and expertise for marine research, education and extension, and promotes the understanding, development, wise use and conservation of our ocean and coastal resources. NH Sea Grant research falls into four general areas: 1) Conservation and sustainable utilization of fisheries resources; 2) Sustainable aquaculture; 3) Coastal ecosystem and public health, and 4) Coastal communities and economics.

New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium

The New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) serves the state and the region by developing programs designed to resolve coastal issues, develop marine technology, formulate science-based policy, and improve science literacy among its citizens.   Member Institutions of the NJSGC are colleges, universities and other groups with expertise in marine, coastal and/or estuarine science and an interest in New Jersey’s marine, coastal and/or estuarine affairs. Collectively the group works to advance knowledge and wise-utilization of New Jersey’s marine and coastal resources and make a positive impact on marine and coastal policy throughout the region.

New York City Mayor's Office of Recovery and Resiliency

The New York City Office of Recovery and Resiliency (ORR), part of the Mayor's Office, works with agencies, industry, and other stakeholders. It also works through partnerships to advance long-term plans for resilience and growth. This Office leads the City's efforts to implement recommendations laid out in A Stronger, More Resilient New York and One New York: The Plan for a Strong and Just City. The plan builds on the foundations of public collaboration and rigorous analysis. ORR will guide the City's work to: strengthen coastal defenses, upgrade buildings, protect infrastructure and critical services, and make homes, businesses, and neighborhoods safer and more vibrant.
