The Climate Strategy from New Mexico’s Interagency Climate Change Task Force presents a suite of policies that integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation throughout New Mexico’s state government programs and operations. It serves as a strategic guide for the state to achieve the mitigation and adaptation goals as ordered in Governor Lujan Grisham’s Executive Order 2019-003 mandating lower carbon emissions and adaptations to limit climate change impacts. The report describes New Mexico’s adaptation progress across state agencies and the focal sectors of public health, emergency preparedness, and water supply.

Karuk have lived in the Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains in the mid-Klamath River region of northern California beyond documented history, and now face severe climate change impacts to their territory and way of life. The Karuk Climate Adaptation Plan details climate impacts and adaptation strategies for the Karuk tribe and culture, local species and habitats, human health, critical infrastructure, tribal programs, tribal sovereignty and management authority. The climate adaptations evaluated have combined western science and Karuk traditional knowledge, and are recommended based on 22 focal species cultural indicators “for human responsibilities and necessary human actions” across seven habitat management zones.

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Better Together Resilient Communities grant program funds initiatives to help California communities better prepare for, withstand, and recover from extreme weather events and other risks related to climate change. PG&E is investing $2 million over five years in shareholder-funded grants. In 2018, PG&E focused on projects to help communities prepare for increased frequency and severity of extreme heat events, and the 2019 Resilient Communities grant program focused on wildfire risk.

In June 2019, Maine Governor Janet Mills signed into law "An Act to Promote Clean Energy Jobs and to Establish the Maine Climate Council. " The act states that the impacts of climate change have created an "emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine" and find that the law is "immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety. " To address the state's climate emergency, the act includes multiple provisions related to climate adaptation and resilience.

The Santa Monica Sustainability Rights Ordinance, adopted by the Santa Monica City Council in June 2019, declares a human right to a healthy environment and grants natural ecosystems a right of existence. The ordinance reaffirms the City’s commitment to protecting and modeling sustainability, including with regard to rights it recognizes but believes existing law fails to protect. The ordinance empowers citizens to bring suit to protect nature’s rights and their own related to the environment.

Dibaginjigaadeg Anishinaabe Ezhitwaad: A Tribal Climate Adaptation Menu was developed to support climate adaptation planning that integrates tribal and indigenous traditional values. The Tribal Climate Adaptation Menu (Menu) is an extensive collection of adaptation strategies based in natural climate solutions and resource management, primarily for the use of indigenous communities, tribal natural resource agencies and their non-indigenous partners. The Menu is designed to address the unique needs, knowledges and cultures of indigenous communities, and includes Guiding Principles, which describe considerations for working with indigenous peoples.

The Samish Indian Nation have lived along the Salish Sea of Washington State “since time immemorial,” and are experiencing the impacts of climate change on their ancestral lands, waters, communities, wildlife, culture, and way of life. The Samish Indian Nation Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment was developed to provide the tribe with an understanding of how climate change will impact important resources, and to highlight areas that need further research and adaptation planning. It was prepared through collaboration of the Samish Indian Nation staff and Tribal community members led by the Samish Climate Change Working Group.

The City of Fort Collins, Colorado 2019 Municipal Sustainability and Adaptation Plan (MSAP) outlines the goals and objectives for achieving a healthy, sustainable city and improving Fort Collin’s resilience to a changing climate. Presenting six goals and 17 objectives for the City through the year 2050, the plan is a guide for city employees to develop and implement sustainability and adaptation strategies.

In June 2019, the New York Department of State completed a set of model local resiliency laws as part of its required actions under the State’s Community Risk and Resiliency Act (CCRA). The model laws are meant to inform municipalities who want to adapt their own resiliency measures. Five categories of model laws are included in the model, which is divided into five corresponding chapters. The categories are 1) basic land use models including zoning practices; 2) model legal protections for watercourses and wetlands; 3) model protection measures for shorelines; 4) model floodplain management practices, and; 5) model stormwater management practices.
