On February 7, 2013 35 federal agencies released their third annual Sustainability Plans, which for the first time included Climate Change Adaptation Plans to help federal agencies reach climate change resilience goals.

This report assesses the potential vulnerability of New Jersey's state transit agency (NJ TRANSIT) stationary assets (rail, structures and buildings) to weather-related risks and projected climate impacts and identifies “cost-effective resilience strategies. ” While the assessment was underway, Hurricane Irene hit the state, causing $2 to $3 million in damages and losses in revenue and underscoring the need for NJ TRANSIT to plan for and build resilience against extreme weather events. The report quantifies the risks of a range of impacts to NJ TRANSIT assets given climate change scenarios over different planning timeframes (5, 10, 20 and 50 years).

In 2012, this All Hazard Mitigation Plan was adopted by the City of Milwaukee in compliance with requirements of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Although the plan does not have in-depth treatment of climate change, it does acknowledge that future planning should utilize estimates of how climate change will effect precipitation in the region (at p. 63).

The Boulder County Climate Change Preparedness Plan was prepared by Stratus Consulting for Boulder County Commissioner’s Sustainability Office. The plan is aimed at improving the resilience of the county and its municipalities to the vulnerabilities of climate change. The report identifies the potential impacts of climate change, explores the implications of these changes in the context of resource management institutions, and outlines opportunities for adaptation planning efforts.

The San Francisco Planning and Research Association (SPUR) facilitated a coordinated effort among multiple agencies to create this long-range plan for San Francisco's Ocean Beach, 3. 5 miles of beach and rugged coastline from the Cliff House to Fort Funston. The Ocean Beach Master Plan (OBMP) presents recommendations for the management and protection of Ocean Beach, and addresses the impact of sea level rise, the physical and ecological processes shaping the beach, and improved integration with its natural, recreational, and urban contexts.

This report from the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) and the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), presents the findings of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) funded workshop to identify the critical information and technical assistance needs of state and local transportation agencies on climate change adaptation. Discussions between transportation and climate experts from all levels of government, academia, and non-profits are presented, and overall, they recognized that there needs to be a better understanding of climate science, as well as adaptation, in the transportation sector.

The Oregon Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Climate Change Adaptation Strategy Report is intended to provide a preliminary assessment of likely climate change impacts on ODOT assets and operations and adaptation strategies. ODOT is responsible for more than 19,000 lane miles of state highway, 2,700 bridges, thousands of culverts, and other critical infrastructure. All of this infrastructure is potentially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, such as increased incidence of landslides, flooding, coastal erosion, and wildfires.

The Department of Defense (DoD) released their first Climate Change Adaptation Roadmap (CCAR) in 2012, detailing the Department’s plan for managing the effects of climate change on its operations and infrastructure in both the short and long term. According to the CCAR, DoD expects climate change to challenge its ability to fulfill its mission in the future, and climate-related effects already are being observed at DoD installations throughout the U.S. and overseas.

The San Diego Bay Sea Level Rise Strategy provides a regional approach to sea level rise adaptation, and is a foundation to guide coordinated adaptation planning among participating local jurisdictions. The strategy was prepared by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, and resulted from the efforts of a collaborative, regional stakeholder process undertaken as part of the San Diego Regional Climate Protection Initiative, a partnership with the San Diego Foundation and all local governments in the San Diego region.
