Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Adaptation Resource Center (ARC-X) is an interactive online tool designed to inform local decisionmakers about climate change impacts and adaptation solutions for communities across the U. S.  The tool provides information about climate change risks on sectors as selected by the user; relevant adaptation strategies; case studies illustrating how other communities have successfully adapted to those risks and tools to replicate their successes; and EPA funding opportunities.

Environmental Resilience Institute Toolkit

The Environmental Resilience Institute Toolkit (ERIT) is a publicly-accessible online tool designed primarily for communities of Indiana and midwestern states to assess, prepare for, and respond to “environmental change. ” ERIT has a special emphasis on Midwestern communities but includes resources for small to mid-sized communities in both rural and urban areas across the U. S. The toolkit includes case studies, adaptation strategies, adaptation planning tools, and potential funding sources.

U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit

The U. S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, as called for in President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, is a website developed by a partnership of federal agencies and organizations led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The Toolkit will enable decision-makers to take action to improve their climate resilience using data-driven tools, information, and subject-matter expertise. The comprehensive site is designed to serve interested citizens, communities, businesses, resource managers, planners, and policy leaders at all levels of government.

Stormwater Management Toolkit: Urban Watershed Planning Game

June 1, 2013

As part of the Stormwater Management Toolkit, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) developed the Urban Watershed Planning Game. This game helps the SFPUC understand community priorities by presenting a diverse group of community members with the task of updating San Francisco’s sewer system. The game fosters the development of green infrastructure solutions that help San Francisco adapt to the impacts of climate change in a financially feasible, community driven manner.  This game is a great resource for city planners, watershed managers, public engagement officers, and citizens.

Water Supply and Stress Index Model (WaSSI)

2008

WaSSI is a tool that models historical, current, and future watershed stress for a particular zip code by comparing water supply and demand. Planners can select which of two climate models to use (HadCM2SuL - warm & wet; or CGC1 - hot & dry) to assess possible effects on supply and stress created by climate change under these scenarios. WaSSI uses historical USGS or state water bureau data to estimate past demand; future demand and supply scenarios are based on modeled changes in land use, land management, population, and climate change.

Assessing the Vulnerability of Watersheds to Climate Change

July 2013

The US Forest Service (USFS) Watershed Vulnerability Assessment (WVA) project developed an approach to assessing the vulnerability of water resources in a watershed to projected climate-hydrologic changes. The WVA project was conducted by watershed and aquatic specialists from 11 National Forests across the country representing all nine Forest Service regions. Based on the lessons learned from the pilot projects, this summary report provides guidance on the process of conducting such an assessment, with supporting information for all the key stages of the process.

The Climate Explorer 2.0 (NOAA)

July 27, 2016

In July 2016, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released an update to the 2014 Climate Explore Tool that is integrated into the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit. The new version allows users to explore climate change projections for every county in the contiguous United States and download maps, graphics, and data tables that show projected climate change through 2100.

The Northwest Climate Toolbox

The Northwest Climate Toolbox provides free online access to historic, current and future projections of weather and climate data tools, with an emphasis on the Pacific Northwest. Designed to aid decision-makers in agriculture, water resources and fire management, the tools transform raw climatological, meteorological and hydrological information into visualizations for climate adaptation planning. There are currently 17 tools available, most with data for the entire U. S. , some focused specifically on locations in the western and northwestern U.
