Climate Change and The Economy: Expected Impacts and Their Implications

This publication assembles six of these studies, with a focus on water resources in New Mexico; forests in Tennessee, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming; infrastructure in Alaska; and coastlines in Florida, North Carolina and Texas.

This set of subcommittee briefings to the Massachusetts Climate Change Adaptation Advisory Committee provides potential adaptation strategies for coastal zones and oceans, human health and welfare (including water quality), key infrastructure, local economy and government, natural resources and habitat, and land use. In addition to these issue-specific strategies, the report offers general strategies such as updated hazard mapping, increased financial support for adaptation programs, and revised regulatory and design requirements.

Executive Order 13514: Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance

October 5, 2009

On October 5, 2009, President Obama signed Executive Order 13514, that set sustainability goals for Federal agencies and focuses on making improvements in their environmental, energy and economic performance. The Order establishes an integrated strategy towards sustainability in the Federal Government, and makes the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions a priority for Federal agencies. In addition, every federal agency is directed to develop, implement, and annually update an integrated Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan.

Secretarial Order 3291: Delegation of Authority to Implement the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project, New Mexico

October 1, 2009

Signed by Secretary of the Interior Kenneth Salazar, this 2009 secretarial order delegates to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation the authority to construct, operate, and maintain the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project, New Mexico, which provides a municipal and industrial water supply to the eastern section of the Navajo Nation, the southwestern part of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the City of Gallup, New Mexico.

Confronting Climate Change: An Early Analysis of Water and Wastewater Adaptation Costs

This analysis is an economic assessment with three objectives: 1) To characterize the impacts of climate change on drinking water and wastewater services in the United States through 2050, based on greenhouse gas scenarios and regional projections of climate change effects; 2) To help policy makers and the water and wastewater sector begin to understand the challenges of ensuring that reliable water and wastewater services continue to be available in the face of a changing climate; and 3) To provide early cost estimates so that policies can be developed that address these challenges and planning by utilities can begin.

City of Portland and Multnomah County, Oregon Climate Action Plan 2009

October 2009

In 2007, Portland City Council and the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners adopted resolutions directing staff to design a strategy to reduce local carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050. This 2009 Climate Action Plan responds to that directive. It intends to guide future efforts by the City and County and provide an innovative framework for the region’s transition to a more prosperous, sustainable, and climate-stable future. An updated version of this plan was released in 2015.
