Form the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), this report presents 36 indicators tracking trends in climate change and climate impacts on California's environment and people. This third edition report updates the 2009 and 2013 versions.  The report is a resource intended for decision-makers, scientists, educators, and the public - and brings scientific analysis to inform climate mitigation and adaptation decision-making.

Blackfeet Climate Change Adaptation Plan

April 2018

The Blackfeet or Amskapi Pikuni Nation integrated their tribal government priorities, traditional values and ecological knowledge, climate change impact science, and a collective vision of the future to build this climate change adaptation plan. The plan is oriented around eight focal tribal resource management sectors of: Agriculture, Culture, Forestry, Fish, Wildlife, Land and Range, Water, and Human Health in northern Montana. Projected climate impacts were analyzed with experts within the Blackfeet Nation for each sector to create climate adaptation goals, strategies, and actions.

Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment - Integrating Scientific and Traditional Ecological Knowledge

April 2018

The Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) is “an intertribal natural resource agency that assists its 11 member Ojibwe (also known as Chippewa, or Anishinaabe) tribes in the implementation and protection of off-reservation treaty rights to hunt, fish, and gather in territories ceded (or sold) to the United States. ” The Commission has worked closely with these tribes to assess the vulnerability of the local ecosystems and natural resources to climate change across the Great Lakes region including Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Twelve case studies feature organizations and their climate-informed strategies and innovative long-term goals that are ready to evolve with the impacts of climate change. The case studies included reflect projects that were were supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society Climate Adaptation Fund.

Conserving California’s Coastal Habitats - A Legacy and a Future with Sea Level Rise

March 15, 2018

The Nature Conservancy in California and the California State Coastal Conservancy collaborated on this sea level rise vulnerability assessment of California’s coastal habitats, imperiled species, and conservation lands. This study is the first of its kind to assess the sea level rise vulnerability of all coastal habitats along the entire coast of California, including the San Francisco Bay and Delta. Vulnerability results were used to develop key strategies to protect coastal habitats and at-risk species from sea level rise and other stressors, as well as determine new priority areas to preserve these habitats.

USGS - Northwest Climate Science Center Funding Opportunity

February 5, 2018

The U. S. DOI/USGS Northwest Climate Science Center (NW CSC) has announced 2018 funding available for Principal Investigators (PIs) from the NW CSC University Consortium (University of Washington, Boise State Univ. , Univ. of Montana, Washington State Univ. , and Western Washington Univ. ) as well as all USGS PIs. Funded projects will address the goals identified in the NW CSC Science Agenda for 2018-23, through scientific research or data synthesis on climate impacts on endangered species, regional adaptation and management, and social systems.

Safeguarding California Plan: 2018 Update

California’s Climate Adaptation Strategy 2018 Update describes the state’s progress in climate adaptation and presents an actionable plan for the near future. Building on the 2009 California Adaptation Strategy and the 2014 Safeguarding California Plan, the 2018 report is directed by Assembly Bill 1482 (2015-16) to update the state’s adaptation strategy every three years.

South Platte Watershed Natural Capital Resource Assessment

2018

Led by a project team of federal and state agencies and consultants, this assessment analyzes and values the ecosystem services provided by the South Platte Watershed in Colorado, and provides data and tools to help managers prioritize investments in restoration and preservation to maintain ecosystem health. The South Platte Watershed covers 3. 8 million acres spanning from the mountains to the Denver metropolitan area and adjacent plains. The assessment process involved mapping the natural assets in the South Platte Watershed and identifying the most important assets, valuing the ecosystem services provided by those assets, and developing a decision support tool to help prioritization of restoration and conservation decisions.
