California's 2009 Climate Change Adaptation Strategy called for an independent, non-partisan group of private citizens to act as an adaptation advisory panel to the state. On December 2, 2009, then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that the Pacific Council’s Task Force on California’s Adaptation to Climate Change would act as the Climate Adaptation Advisory Panel to California. The purpose of the Panel, as called for in the state's Strategy, is to identify the most significant threats facing California as a result of climate change, and to make recommendations to reduce the state's vulnerability to those threats.

The 2009 Adaptation Strategy organized state agencies into seven resource-based sector working groups. Each working group identified preliminary adaptation strategies that could be implemented in the short term (by December 2010) and the longer term.

Executive Order 24 signed by Governor Patterson in August 2009 created the New York Climate Action Council and charged it with creating a Climate Action Plan. This 428 page Interim Report was released in November 2010, indicating the teams are still moving forward on the final plan. Chapter 11 covers the work effort of the Adaptation Technical Working Groups in 8 sectors: Agriculture, Coastal Zones, Ecosystems, Energy, Public Health, Transportation, Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure, and Water.

This report presents climate adaptation strategies for San Luis Obispo County (SLO) with a focus on increasing the resilience of both human and natural communities. The report reflects the collective efforts of many people in SLO, including elected leaders, county planners, land managers, public health officials, concerned citizens, and others who attended four workshops in 2009 - 2010. These meetings were held to discuss the threat of climate change to the community and establish some initial strategies to reduce vulnerability.

Located 20 miles northeast from San Francisco, the City of Pinole is situated on the shores of San Pablo Bay in West Contra Costa County of California. The state law requires every city and county to adopt a General Plan for its future development, and Pinole has incorporated sustainability and climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies throughout its plan and policies. This 500+ page General Plan is to be used to inform citizens, decision-makers and other interested groups of the policies that will guide development related decisions in the community, and to serve as a guide to future land use and economic development through its goals, policies and actions.

Enacted in 2010 by the State of Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources, this document sets forth the Department’s policy to manage the state’s land, natural resources and assets toward better understanding, mitigating and adapting to climate change. In this policy, the Department identifies climate change-related practices, procedures and implementation actions across seven areas: new land investments, facility and infrastructure siting and design, habitat restoration, government operations, research and monitoring, resource planning, and advocacy.

This vulnerability assessment identifies significant projected climate changes for Lee County, Florida, and the anticipated effects of those changes on both natural and man-made systems in the region. The report also identifies potentially critical vulnerabilities that will need to be addressed by adaptation or accommodation in Lee County. It examines the current climate and ongoing climate change in southwest Florida along with five future scenarios of climate change into the year 2100. These scenarios include:
a condition that involves a future in which mitigative actions are undertaken to reduce the human influence on climate change (Stanton and Ackerman 2007),
a 90% probable future predicted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 2007b),
a 50% probable future predicted by IPCC,
a 5% probable future predicted by the IPCC, and
a “very worst” future in which no actions are taken to address climate change (Stanton and Ackerman 2007).

Building on the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for Lee County, Florida the CCRS includes a process for identifying potential climate change resiliency strategies through coordination and consultation with local government leadership in 39 Lee County departments and divisions. Identification of resiliency strategies that could be utilized by Lee County to reduce the negative effects of climate change help in positioning the County to take advantage of potential climate prosperity opportunities.
