This report is the result of a climate change adaptation project launched by the Nature Conservancy for the Eastern Shore of Virginia to quantify the current understanding of potential ecological effects due to climate change through an expert workshop, literature review and assessment of resource vulnerability using LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data.

In 2010, the City of Chula Vista's Climate Change Working Group (CCWG) evaluated the potential impacts from climate change on municipal infrastructure and services, and recommended strategies to adapt to these potential impacts. In October 2010, the CCWG presented 11 recommended Climate Adaptation Strategies (see Appendix A) to the City Council to address climate change vulnerabilities and solutions related to energy and water supplies, public health, wildfires, biodiversity, coastal resources, and the local economy.

The Drought-Ready Communities pilot project culminated in 2010 with this "Guide to Community Drought Preparedness" that communities throughout the U.S. can use to understand and reduce their drought risk. The process outlined in the Guide is broad-based, recognizing that drought creates problems that go beyond the scope of which water suppliers alone can address.

This report compiles ongoing initiatives at four federal agencies in the Obama Administration to protect American water resources. The document summarizes programs of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Department of the Interior (DOI), and their partners, to preserve water quality and supply. The report describes new agency water resource initiatives, including updated draft guidance regarding Clean Water Act jurisdiction.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation developed this report in response to the SECURE Water Act of 2009 - outlining climate change impacts on water basins in the Southwestern U.S. The report provides comprehensive assessments of risk across each of Reclamation's major eight basins and summarizes hydrologic changes that would take place in response to projected climate change.

First released in 2007, PlaNYC was an unprecedented effort undertaken by New York City Mayor Bloomberg to prepare the city for one million more residents, strengthen the economy, combat climate change, and enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers. The Plan brought together over 25 City agencies to work toward the vision of a greener, greater New York.

Southeast Florida with its populous coastal counties, subtropical environment, porous geology and low topography is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, especially sea level rise. At the October 23, 2009 Southeast Florida (SE FL) Regional Climate Leadership Summit, the local diversity in sea level rise (SLR) projections was highlighted as a concern and a barrier to achieving regionally consistent adaptation policies. Following the summit, the four counties of Southeast Florida (Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) entered into the SE FL Regional Climate Change Compact to work cooperatively to address climate concerns in the region.

Roughly 1. 2 million U. S. tribal members living on or near reservations are experiencing constraints on their lifestyles and economic activity due to the impacts of climate change. Forest resources are deteriorating due to invasive species, while salmon are threatened by warmer water temperatures. In the United States, the federal government has an obligation to exercise legal authorities to protect tribal lands, resources and rights. Because ecosystems and ecosystem impacts permeate jurisdictions and borders, tribal dependence on the land extends beyond on-reservation resources.
