US - Netherlands Connection Project

The US-Netherlands Connection Project (USNC) is a knowledge exchange program between the U. S. and the Netherlands. Administered by Florida Earth Foundation, USNC brings delegates of professionals in academia, industry, government and nonprofits to the Netherlands to explore Dutch expertise in water management and infrastructure, especially as it relates to sea-level rise adaptation and resilience. The goal of the project is to create a unique collaboration between the country of the Netherlands and the State of Florida and the U.

TreeFlow

TreeFlow is an online resource for tree-ring reconstructions of stream flow and climate. By providing a longer window into the past, tree-ring reconstructions describe the natural variability of climate (precipitation, drought) more completely than gaged records. While projected changes in precipitation may be uncertain in some area, projections for temperature changes due to climate change are highly useful and relevant when added to the range of natural flow variability seen in the reconstructions.

Prince William County Stormwater Fee

1994

Prince William County, Virginia established a stormwater utility in 1994 to pay for the county's stormwater management plan.  Landowners of developed properties pay a fee based upon the amount of impervious surface on their property.  In 2014, the county assessed fees of $38.21/year for owners of single family homes, $28.69/year for owners of townhomes or apartments, and business owners are charged $18.56 per 1,000 sq. ft. of impervious area.

Washington Department of Ecology Clearinghouse: Impacts, Preparation, Adaptation Resources

The Washington Department of Ecology developed a central clearinghouse to store resources with scientific and technical information related to the impacts of climate change on different sectors in Washington. Resources in the clearinghouse are generally organized by the same sectors within the statewide adaptation plan, the '2012 Washington State Integrated Climate Change Response Strategy' (which also is reviewed in this Clearinghouse). Efforts to maintain and expand the clearinghouse help address several recommendations made in the 2012 Strategy.

EPA Environmental Finance Center Grants

Environmental Finance Centers (EFCs) are funded by grants from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide environmental-finance expertise and outreach to states, tribes, local governments, and the private sector. The EFCs work with these entities to help them fund, finance, and manage the growing costs of environmental protection and compliance. The EFCs provide finance-related training, education, and analytical studies to help state and communities develop solutions for paying for initiative and programs required to meet environmental standards set by federal laws such as the Clean Water Act.

Aquarius: A Modeling System for River Basin Water Allocation

Aquarius is a software application developed by the Rocky Mountain Research Station of the U. S Forest Service and Colorado State University. The modeling system depicts the temporal and spatial allocation of water flows among competing traditional and nontraditional water uses in a river basin. The program can be used to determine economically efficient water destination strategies by systematically examining, using a nonlinear optimization technique, the feasibility of reallocating unused or marginally valuable water storage and releases in favor of alternative uses.

Spatial Tools for River Basins and Environment and Analysis of Management Options (STREAM)

STREAM is a spatial hydrological model that allows for assessing hydrological impacts due to changes in climate and socio-economic drivers. It is set up according to a policy analysis framework and ensures a structured approach for an entire river basin including the coastal zone.
